The Director of Accreditation and Credentialing provides strategic leadership, oversight, and management for the organization’s accreditation and credentialing programs. This role ensures the integrity, quality, and consistency of all standards, processes, and evaluation activities. The Director develops programming strategy, supervises accreditation operations, and ensures that accreditation and credentialing activities advance organizational mission and sector-wide excellence. This position serves as the primary steward of accreditation and credentialing policies, fosters strong relationships with accredited organizations, industry subject matter experts, partners with the Executive Director to evangelize International Council for Helplines (ICH) accreditation to decision makers and leads continuous improvement initiatives to enhance program effectiveness, credibility, and value.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Program Management

  • Provide leadership and long-term vision for accreditation and credentialing programs, ensuring alignment with organizational mission and strategic goals.
  • Oversee development, revision, and implementation of accreditation standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor sector trends and evolving best practices to ensure programs remain relevant, rigorous, and responsive.
  • Establish and track program goals, performance metrics, and evaluation benchmarks.

 

Accreditation & Credentialing Operations

  • Oversee all phases of accreditation and credentialing workflows, including application intake, documentation review, site visits, evaluator assignments, report review, and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure high-quality, timely service to applicants and accredited organizations.
  • Maintain and enhance accreditation management systems, databases, and documentation tools.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and clarity in all reports, findings, and accreditation decisions.

 

Standards Development & Quality Assurance

  • Lead every other year reviews and revisions of standards to reflect current research, sector priorities, and stakeholder needs.
  • Coordinate stakeholder and expert input through advisory groups, surveys, or public comment processes.
  • Implement mechanisms for continuous quality improvement across all program components.


Examiner Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and manage ICH Staff and contracted examiners
  • Develop and deliver training materials, webinars, and guidance documents for examiners and applicants.
  • Ensure examiners apply standards consistently and ethically.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Provide guidance, technical assistance, and education regarding accreditation requirements and processes.
  • Present program updates, trends, and data to the Executive Director. 
  • Represent the organization at conferences, webinars, and external meetings.

 

Policy, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, bylaws, and ethical guidelines in all accreditation and credentialing functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and fairness throughout all evaluation activities.
  • Manage complaints, appeals, or compliance concerns in accordance with established procedures.

 

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise accreditation and credentialing staff and contractors, providing mentorship, workflow coordination, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture centered on accuracy, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop staff and contractor capacity through training and professional development opportunities.

 

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Oversee data collection, tracking, and analysis to support program planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare regular program reports for the Executive Director.
  • Use data to inform improvements to standards, processes, and applicant support.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, Health Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accreditation, credentialing, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or program evaluation.
  • Experience working within an accrediting body or credentialing agency
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complex processes and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Familiarity with continuous quality improvement (CQI) or equivalent frameworks
  • Commitment to fairness, transparency, confidentiality, and ethical evaluation practices.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, Health Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.
