About Foxhound Bee Company LLC

Foxhound Bee Company was founded in 2014 by Adam Hickman after he started keeping bees in 2012, and we’ve grown from selling supplies out of a truck into a beekeeping supply and education company built on one belief: good beekeeping starts with good teaching. Based in Irondale, Alabama, we operate from a 5,000 sq ft facility with a retail store, classroom, honey processing room, outdoor pavilion, and teaching apiary, plus additional warehouses for storage and manufacturing. We specialize in high-quality cypress hives and trusted beekeeping gear, and we serve customers through hands-on education, practical support, and nationwide shipping through our website and select products on Amazon.

Volunteer Beekeeping, Education And Community Service Program

Foxhound Bee Company offers volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, students, and organized groups interested in beekeeping, pollinator conservation, agricultural education, and community service. • Adults interested in meaningful, hands-on volunteer work

What Volunteers Will Do

Depending on interest, availability, and program requirements, volunteers may assist with:

  • Supporting beekeeping classes, workshops, and public events
  • Helping care for honey bee colonies under staff supervision
  • Assisting with apiary maintenance, feeding, and seasonal tasks
  • Maintaining and improving our pollinator garden and outdoor teaching spaces
  • Supporting educational demonstrations and visitor engagement
  • Assisting with approved community service or capstone projects

Volunteer roles are structured to match experience level and program requirements whenever possible.

Community Service and Youth Programs

Foxhound Bee Company welcomes volunteers completing approved community service hours, including those participating in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Eagle Scout projects, Master Gardener programs, school service requirements, and similar organizations. Service hours can be documented and verified as required. Larger projects (such as Eagle Scout or Gold Award projects) must be coordinated and approved in advance to ensure safety, scope alignment, and staff availability.

Youth volunteers are subject to age requirements, supervision rules, and safety guidelines. Parental or program leader involvement may be required depending on the activity.

Commitment and Expectations

  • Minimum time commitment may apply depending on role or program
  • Volunteers must be reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
  • Work is primarily outdoors and may involve heat, lifting, uneven ground, and proximity to bees
  • Volunteers must follow all safety and PPE requirements
  • All participants must complete required waivers and onboarding steps

What Volunteers Gain

  • Documented volunteer or community service hours
  • Hands-on experience in a working apiary and education-focused operation
  • Exposure to pollinator conservation and sustainable practices
  • Opportunities to support real-world agricultural education
  • Potential eligibility for program credit (where applicable)
  • Priority consideration for future volunteer or paid opportunities

Scheduling

Volunteer opportunities are scheduled around class days, events, and seasonal beekeeping needs. Availability may vary by season, with peak activity during spring, summer, and fall.

How to Apply

Interested volunteers must complete an application. Program-specific requirements (such as Master Beekeeper credit, scout projects, or school documentation) should be noted during the application process so appropriate placements and supervision can be arranged.
