Faith in Action is seeking a Communications Intern to support our communications team in telling the stories of faith-rooted people organizing for justice and building a better future for all. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging communications professional who wants hands-on experience in media relations, digital communications, storytelling, social media, and advocacy communications. The Communications Intern will work closely with the communications team to develop compelling content, support media outreach, monitor news and social media, and help amplify the voices of Faith in Action leaders, clergy, organizers, and community members.

Key Responsibilities

Media & Press

  • Assist with drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, and media pitches.
  • Research journalists, publications, and media outlets covering politics, faith, immigration, racial justice, democracy, and social movements.
  • Help maintain and update media lists.
  • Monitor news coverage and identify opportunities to elevate Faith in Action leaders and campaigns.
  • Track media mentions and help compile communications reports.
  • Support preparation for press conferences, public actions, and other media events.

Digital & Social Media

  • Assist in developing content for social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
  • Draft social media copy that translates complex policy and organizing issues into accessible and compelling messages.
  • Help identify timely news and cultural moments that provide opportunities for Faith in Action to engage in public conversations.
  • Support the creation of digital campaigns and rapid-response communications.
  • Assist with scheduling and organizing social media content.

Storytelling & Content Creation

  • Help identify and develop stories highlighting the experiences and leadership of faith and community leaders.
  • Draft short profiles, web stories, newsletters, captions, and other communications materials.
  • Conduct interviews with organizers, clergy, and community members as needed.
  • Assist with gathering photos, video, quotes, testimonials, and other storytelling assets.
  • Help maintain an organized digital library of communications materials.

Research & Communications Support

  • Monitor political, social, and policy developments relevant to Faith in Action's campaigns.
  • Conduct background research for speeches, op-eds, statements, media pitches, and other communications materials.
  • Support rapid-response communications around breaking news and emerging issues.
  • Assist with special communications projects and campaigns as assigned.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A strong writer and storyteller with excellent attention to detail.
  • Passionate about social justice, racial justice, democracy, immigration, economic justice, and/or faith-based organizing.
  • Interested in the intersection of faith, politics, organizing, and communications.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Familiar with social media platforms and digital communications.
  • Able to conduct online research and synthesize information quickly.
  • A strong collaborator who is comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and communities.
  • Organized, reliable, and willing to learn.
  • Able to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality when working with organizational and community information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, public policy, religious studies, sociology, or a related field.
  • Experience writing for a student newspaper, campus organization, nonprofit, political campaign, faith community, or advocacy organization.
  • Experience with Canva or other basic graphic-design tools.
  • Familiarity with social media management platforms.
  • Experience with media monitoring or public relations.
  • Basic photography, video, or multimedia skills are a plus.
