Classroom Teacher - Preschool (Pre-K3, Pre-K4, Transitional Kindergarten)

Responsible to: Head of School, Assistant Principal, Preschool Director
Academic Preparation: Bachelor’s degree; TEA and/or ACSI Certification; 2+ years classroom experience preferred
Physical: Requires climbing stairs, standing, sitting, walking, running, bending, reaching chalkboard height, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
Position Type: Contracted, exempt employee. Paid on a salaried basis.

Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited postsecondary college or university or willingness to pursue within a specified amount of time.
- TEA and/or ACSI certification required or willingness to complete within a specified timeframe
- Two or more years of classroom experience preferred

- Understand the physical/emotional development of children—particularly at the age level of the children being taught
- Regularly assess the learning of students and provide feedback to parents and students, alike.
- Demonstrate effective written & oral communication skills. Respond to parent communication in a timely manner - in person, via email, or on the phone.
Pre-K and TK-specific expectations:
Teachers are responsible for planning and implementing instruction that reflects the developmental needs of Pre-K and TK students, including:
- Play-based and experiential learning
- Early literacy and numeracy foundations
- Fine and gross motor development
- Social-emotional skills such as cooperation, self-regulation, and communication
- Strengthening school readiness and executive functioning skills
- Early reading, writing, and math readiness
- Listening, following directions, and independent work habits
- Social-emotional maturity and peer interaction
Work Schedule:
- 190-day contract: 180 classroom instructional days plus 10 in-service, professional development, and/or work days.
- Daily hours: 30 minutes before instructional day begins (7:45am) until 15 minutes after student dismissal (3:45pm) (Friday staff devotions begin at 7:30am.
- Twice monthly staff meetings are on the first and third Wednesday from 3:45 - 4:45pm.
- Attend and participate in required school functions: open houses, Christmas program, spring program, graduation, one PTF sponsored social, one PTF sponsored parent education program, and one of the monthly PTF meetings.
