Who We Are Looking For 

BCPP is hiring a motivated and versatile Associate to join our team at the intersection of communications and policy. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this position will create compelling content, directly contribute toward a California ballot initiative aimed at reducing toxic exposures to chemicals, and engage the public in online digital advocacy efforts.  

 

This position is ideal for a recent college graduate or early-career professional who is passionate about using digital advocacy and content to influence corporate policies and state and federal policymakers to bring about change.  

 

Responsibilities: 

In your first year, 20-25% of your time will be spent working alongside a Senior Policy Strategist, playing a meaningful supporting role in advancing forward-looking, prevention-based toxics and waste reduction policies. 

 

The remainder of your time will be dedicated to creating and managing online content and developing and implementing innovative and strategic advocacy campaigns designed to win corporate accountability campaigns and enact legislation to secure stricter corporate, state, and federal management of the toxic chemicals in our everyday lives. These campaigns will seek to deepen our relationship with existing supporters as well as recruit new supporters to help grow our advocacy community. 


California Ballot Initiative — Toxics Policy Support 

  • Help draft ballot language, including high-level objectives, authorities to be granted, and implementation structures—with a focus on
  • 1) creating new or strengthen existing entities that promote innovations in safer alternatives to current toxics and plastics and  
  • 2) strengthening the roles of government agencies charged with protecting Californians from harm from toxics-OEHHA, Biomonitoring California, Safer Consumer Products, CA Safer Cosmetics 
  • Research existing regulations, laws, and policy models from other states and countries relevant to reducing toxic chemical exposures to inform the development of statutory language 
  • Coordinate with state partners to ensure varying perspectives are represented, particularly mindful of people experiencing environmental injustices 
  • Provide project management support as needed, including tracking deliverable, timelines, and follow-up items 

Content Creation 

  • Write and edit content across channels: newsletters, emails, press releases, graphics, blog posts, op-eds, talking points, and social copy 
  • Maintain a consistent and comprehensive content calendar in coordination with Marketing & Communications leadership 
  • Measure and monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and recommend ways to optimize content performance 
  • Identify trends and content gaps and opportunities 
  • Routinely develop, measure, and optimize KPIs and metrics based on data and analytics 
  • Ensure content is searchable and discoverable based on highest ranked search terms 

Digital Advocacy  

  • Develop digital advocacy campaigns that educate, engage, and grow our supporter base, including advocacy emails, action alerts, social posts, blogs, and web copy 
  • Bridge online campaigns with on-the-ground engagement strategies 
  • Recruit and coordinate NGO and business partners on digital campaigns, report releases, and develop toolkits for their use. This includes liaising with clean cosmetics companies as part of our Campaign for Safe Cosmetics 
  • Track, evaluate, and report on metrics to measure impact and improve advocacy efforts 
  • Manage administrative tasks including Salesforce and Action Network data cleanup, data management and analysis, and event planning 

 

Required Qualifications and Skills:  

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public policy, environmental studies, public health, or a related field — or equivalent experience 
  • Experience developing or supporting online advocacy campaigns 
  • Experience creating digestible content across digital channels, including email and social media 
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt across audiences and formats 
  • Genuine interest in environmental health, women's health, toxics reduction issues, or related public interest issues 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite or other standard workplace productivity tools and ability to learn new systems 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, and adapt in a fast-moving environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with colleagues and external partners 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Graphic design skills (video editing is a plus) 
  • Experience building partnerships with NGOs, businesses, or government partners 
  • Comfort with research tasks such as reviewing legislation, regulations, or policy models from other jurisdictions 
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms such as Action Network, Salesforce Account Engagement, Canva, Google Analytics and social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok) 

 

Terms 

  • Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000 
  • Location: Remote, Bay Area residence strongly preferred 
  • Hours: Full-time 
  • Classification: Exempt
