Braata Productions invites dynamic, experienced and creative Teaching Artists to apply to teach our afterschool program and senior center Spring residencies. We are looking for Teaching Artists in all arts disciplines. Reporting to Braata’s Education Program Coordinator, teaching artist positions are available for Schools and Senior Centers in Queens, NYC. Teaching Artists who work on-site are required to provide proof of vaccination, due to NYC and DOE regulations. Braata conducts workshops in senior centers and after school programming in public schools throughout New York City and uses theater, dance, music and the visual arts to engage and educate. Throughout our ongoing residencies, workshops, and community events, Braata programs introduce youth and community members to Caribbean art forms, foster collaboration, strengthen problem solving skills, and provide outlets for creative and engaged expression.

Job Title: Teaching Artist

Employment Classification: Seasonal Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Queens, New York

Pay: $75/hour. The Braata Productions (BP) Teaching Artist pay scale is based on experience and expertise. Teaching Artists are also paid $25/hour for planning time and meetings. BP will cover the cost of any necessary supplies.


Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Subject to the policies and management directions established by the Executive Director, the duties of the Teaching Artist shall include:

  • Designing and executing an age-appropriate, engaging arts curriculum that celebrates Caribbean arts forms and traditions.
  • Preparing for and producing culminating presentations at assigned site(s).
  • Collaborating effectively with coworkers and communicating regularly with supervisory staff.
  • Submitting student attendance records, complete lesson and unit plans, timesheets, reports, and other vital programmatic documentation.


DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERTISE:

Braata selects Teaching Artists who embody the following qualities:

  • Artistic Excellence, including quality and scope of professional artistic work, and depth of knowledge within one or more of the following artistic disciplines:
  • Dance
  • Instrumental Music
  • Theater
  • Visual Arts
  • Vocal Music
  • Strong familiarity with Caribbean arts forms and traditions within one or more art disciplines.
  • Engaging and Student-Centered Teaching, especially incorporating the creative process, reaching students across diverse developmental levels and needs, yielding quality student work, strong understanding of learning standards in the arts, adjusting instruction to meet the needs of students, strong classroom management skills, and substantial experience in NYC public school classrooms.
  • Professionalism, including strong communication, punctuality, and the ability to plan with and collaborate with others, and clear articulation and actualization of goals and objectives.
