Job Summary:
The Shop Floor Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all activities on the production floor to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality output. This role directly supervises a team of 10–15 operators, ensuring compliance with work instructions, adherence to the production schedule (Gantt chart), and achievement of daily production targets. The Supervisor acts as a key leader in maintaining discipline, fostering team development, and driving continuous improvement on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of 10–15 shop floor operators.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Achieve daily production targets while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.
- Ensure team compliance with detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety regulations.
- Monitor production progress using Gantt charts and escalate issues that may impact the schedule.
- Train, coach, and mentor employees to improve individual and team performance.
- Lead daily huddles and communicate goals, expectations, and updates to the team.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks or production issues in real time.
- Promote a clean, organized, and efficient shop floor using 5S and lean practices.
- Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve technical or equipment issues.
- Record production data and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, scrap, rework, and downtime.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training in manufacturing or operations is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, including 1+ years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong working knowledge of shop floor operations, tools, and safety practices.
- Proven ability to manage teams, meet production goals, and resolve operational challenges.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, and Gantt-based scheduling.
- Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, ERP or MES systems).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move on the shop floor for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying shop floor environments (e.g., temperature, noise, dust).
