We are looking for a Senior GCP Software Engineer to continue building and operating the cloud platform that runs our simulations and delivers results to customers. You will design APIs, orchestrate large-scale simulation processing jobs, and work on the logging, observability, and security that keep the platform reliable and trustworthy. A core part of this role is customer access: hardening the front-end-facing services and, in time, the customer-exposed APIs that let carriers, agencies, and partners securely retrieve their risk data. This is a senior software engineering role at the center of how XyloPlan turns "Fast Fires" physics into wildfire risk products that insurance carriers and fire agencies depend on.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and services that serve simulation inputs, jobs, and results
- Build the services that power customer-facing front-ends and design customer-exposed APIs with secure, multi-tenant access controls
- Orchestrate compute-heavy simulation processing on GCP (Cloud Run, GKE, Batch, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage)
- Build logging, monitoring, and observability so simulation pipelines are debuggable and dependable at scale
- Own platform security: authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, secrets management, and data protection for sensitive customer datasets
- Develop CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation (Terraform, Cloud Build)
- Optimize cost and performance of large batch processing workloads
- Collaborate with the geospatial and simulation teams to productionize their models and pipelines
- Set engineering standards and mentor engineers as the team scales, and contribute to core technical architecture decisions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems
- Strong proficiency in Python for backend services and data processing
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
- Proven experience designing and shipping customer-facing or externally-exposed APIs (REST, gRPC, or GraphQL)
- Experience implementing authentication, authorization, and multi-tenant access controls for customer-facing systems
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong grounding in application and cloud security best practices
- Experience with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building developer-facing API products, including authentication schemes, rate limiting, versioning, and documentation
- Experience orchestrating large batch or scientific computing workloads
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience handling sensitive or regulated customer data (insurance, financial, or geospatial)
- Experience in an early-stage startup environment
- Exposure to geospatial data, simulation pipelines, or high-performance computing
BENEFITS
- Equity: Stock option grant four-year vesting with one-year cliff
- Benefits: Health, dental, vision
- 401(k) available
$165,000 - $200,000 per year
