Position Summary 

Xiphos Partners is seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to join the development team behind the JTAC Virtual Trainer (JVT), a Unity-based VR simulation platform for military training. This role owns automated testing across our simulation and VR builds, bringing hands-on experience supporting mission-critical training systems and simulation platforms. You will join a small, capable, and passionate team building some of the most innovative applications in modeling and simulation, working directly with developers, designers, and military end users on software with real-world impact.

This is a remote, 1099 contract position, with flexible work arrangements based on program requirements. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks for Unity-based simulation applications, including VR environments. 
• Develop and execute Play Mode, Edit Mode, and integration tests using the Unity Test Framework (UTF) and NUnit. 
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or TeamCity. 
• Perform performance, load, and regression testing on Unity VR builds, ensuring consistent behavior across hardware platforms (e.g., Varjo, Meta Quest, HTC Vive). 
• Collaborate with software engineers, simulation architects, and subject matter experts to define test plans for flight paths, ordnance behavior, tactical systems, and sensor simulation. 
• Document and manage test cases, traceability matrices, and defect reports using tools such as TestRail, Jira, or Azure DevOps. 
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure software quality. 
• Occasionally support prototype demonstrations and training events with military end users as part of a collaborative design and development process involving developers, designers, and end users. 

Required Skills 

• 8+ years of experience as a QA Automation Engineer. 
• 3+ years of experience in defense, aerospace, or DoD simulation environments. 
• Deep experience with Unity, including the Unity Test Framework, automated scene testing, and simulation-specific behaviors. 
• Strong programming and scripting skills in C# (Unity) and Python (test automation harnesses or CI pipelines). 
• Familiarity with simulation networking protocols (e.g., DIS, HLA). 
• Hands-on experience testing VR systems. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Background in systems engineering, flight simulation, or JTAC training.
