KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation of Plumbing Systems
- Install and connect pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing systems for water supply and waste disposal.
- Set up water heaters, water filtration systems, and other equipment.
- Assemble and install plumbing systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Inspect plumbing systems to identify and address issues, such as leaks, clogs, or corrosion.
- Repair or replace damaged pipes, faucets, fixtures, and water heaters.
- Unclog drains, toilets, and sewer lines using mechanical tools or specialized equipment.
- Replace worn-out or malfunctioning plumbing components to ensure optimal function.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
- Diagnose problems using specialized tools such as pipe cameras and pressure gauges.
- Identify root causes of issues and develop effective solutions.
- Test systems for leaks, pressure levels, and overall functionality after repairs or installations.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal plumbing codes and regulations.
- Adhere to safety protocols when working with hazardous materials, power tools, and machinery.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including proper handling of tools and materials.
Customer Interaction and Consultation
- Communicate with clients to understand their plumbing needs and provide expert recommendations.
- Advise clients on proper maintenance practices to prevent future issues.
- Provide estimates and explanations for repair and installation services.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Complete work orders, logs, and reports detailing services performed, parts used, and any additional information.
- Maintain accurate records for service history and warranty information.
- Provide reports on the status of plumbing systems to supervisors or clients.
Emergency Services
- Respond promptly to emergency plumbing situations, such as burst pipes, flooding, or broken water heaters.
- Provide quick solutions to minimize damage and restore functionality.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program or vocational training.
Experience:
Several years of experience as a plumber or completion of an apprenticeship.
Licenses/Certifications:
- State-licensed plumber certification, as required.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas, such as gas fitting or backflow prevention, are a plus.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of plumbing systems and mechanical concepts.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools specific to plumbing.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication skills for working with clients and team members.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs or more) and work in confined or uncomfortable positions.
- Stamina to work long hours, including weekends or on-call shifts.
- Manual dexterity and coordination for handling plumbing tools and working in tight spaces.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a variety of environments, including homes, commercial buildings, and industrial sites.
- Potential exposure to harsh weather conditions and high-pressure situations.
- Some tasks may involve working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, or under sinks.
- Work may require handling hazardous materials, such as sewage and chemicals.
