Wilkinson Staffing Agency (WSA) has an opening for an entry level Fleet Maintenance Tech I in Columbus, GA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Routine Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and brake inspections.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts such as filters, belts, hoses, and batteries.
  • Assist in performing routine checks on vehicle systems like lights, signals, and electrical components.

 

Repairs and Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair minor mechanical issues with vehicles and equipment, such as engine problems, transmission issues, or brake malfunctions.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues and determine the appropriate repairs.
  • Support senior technicians with more complex repairs and follow instructions carefully.

 

Inspection and Safety Compliance

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are in safe working condition.
  • Follow company and regulatory safety standards for vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Complete maintenance logs and documentation as required by the company or regulatory agencies.


Equipment and Tool Management

  • Maintain and organize tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Assist in ordering and managing parts inventory, ensuring that supplies are up to date and readily available.

 

Customer Service and Communication

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and other team members to understand maintenance needs and report completed work.
  • Provide clear updates on the status of repairs and maintenance tasks to ensure minimal downtime of vehicles.

 

Learning and Development

  • Participate in training programs to develop technical skills and knowledge of new technologies and maintenance practices.
  • Shadow senior technicians. Assist while learning more complex repairs and diagnostics.
  • Stay up to date on industry best practices and maintain certifications as required.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or certification in automotive or diesel technology is a plus.

 

Experience:

Entry-level position, with 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships or apprenticeships in fleet maintenance or auto repair are beneficial.


Certification:

  • Completion of an accredited automotive or diesel training program is preferred.
  • Certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) are advantageous.

 

Skills:

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to learn and follow repair procedures.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools used in vehicle maintenance.
  • Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with others.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces.
  • Capacity to stand, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in various weather conditions and in an indoor repair shop.

 

Working Conditions

  • The position involves working in a maintenance shop, which may be noisy and exposed to various fumes and chemicals.
  • Technicians may occasionally work outdoors to inspect or repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Safety gear such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots must be worn as required.
