As a Day Camp Counselor for Wildwood’s summer camp season, you will be responsible for creating a positive and inclusive environment where campers feel safe, supported, and inspired. You will lead activities, supervise groups, and serve as a role model for day campers entering grades 1-5. This is a hands-on role perfect for individuals passionate about working with kids and enjoying the great outdoors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during daily activities.
  • Lead and participate in camp activities such as hiking, swimming, target sports, arts and crafts, fishing, and team-building exercises.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, conflict resolution, and teamwork among campers.
  • Foster a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where all campers feel valued and confident.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to campers, helping them develop new skills and grow in their personal abilities.
  • Assist with mealtimes, clean-up, and other camp duties as needed.
  • Communicate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to ensure a seamless camp experience.
  • Ensure camp rules and policies are followed, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all.
  • Be a positive role model for campers and fellow staff members.


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 17 years old.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting is preferred but not required.
  • Enthusiastic, patient, adaptable, and passionate about working with kids in the outdoors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle group dynamics and resolve conflicts in a calm and positive manner.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Training and/or experience in mental health, crisis response, and trauma-informed care are a plus as Wildwood serves a high percentage of low-income youth.
  • Comfortable spending extended time outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Summer Work Schedule:

7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday each week from late May 2025 through early August 2025. Day Camp Counselors are not required to live on-site during summer camp sessions.

Salary

$375 - $425 per week
