Job Coach Specialist

The Job Coach Specialist will assist neurodiverse individuals (Participants) to maximize their independence and employability within their places of work in the community. The Specialist will provide support to individuals or small groups which is centered around maintaining hygiene, attending work, communicating and working with co-workers, learning job skills, and using cues to perform their jobs to the best of their ability.

An essential part of this role is to facilitate the integration of the Participant into the social culture of the workplace and the direct connection with co-workers. The Job Coach will help co-workers and supervisors learn how to best work together with the Participant and share their learning style and recommend needed accommodations. The Specialist will also teach supervisors how to evaluate the Participant’s progress. Inclusion of the Participant in all communication and feedback with the employer is critical. The goal of this position is to help develop the Participant into an integral part of the workplace without further need of the Job Coach Specialist.

Job Coach Specialist Key Responsibilities

●      Ensure the Participant is working safely and maintaining quality standards

●      Communicate with Participant, coworkers, and supervisors to ensure that all workplace relationships are successfully and positively maintained

●      Monitor Participant’s work performance and provide feedback or prompts when needed

●      Recognize and facilitate natural / existing support from coworkers to aid Participant in learning the protocols and rules for the work site

●      Analyze Participant tasks and offer recommendations to make the tasks easier to accomplish; increase Participant independence; reduce prompting; or optimize Participant’s skills and abilities

●      Maintain documentation to include case notes, incident reports, health and safety risk assessments, progress evaluations, work assessments and related paperwork to guide “job-coach-fading” from the job site

●      Address employer and / or Participant concerns in a timely manner, bringing the concern to the attention of the Wide Horizons’ Staff for follow up and resolution


Job Coach Specialist Skills, Knowledge, and Attitude for Job

●      One year or more of work experience working with neurodiverse individuals preferred

●      Communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from Participants, customers, and coworkers

●      Provide effective written communication as appropriate

●      Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time

●      Observe, receive, retain, and analyze information from all relevant sources to choose the best solution and solve problems

●      Deal calmly and effectively with stressful  situations by maintaining composure and using tact, patience, and courtesy

●      Utilize intermediate computer skills for word processing, spreadsheet, and related software programs

●      Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality

●      Maintain confidentiality

●      Maintain high moral standards
