Senior Community Manager

About Whimsy Forge

Whimsy Forge is a growing online membership community built around fantasy, movement, creativity, and connection. Our members come together through fitness challenges, creative programs, live calls, squads, book clubs, workshops, and member-led experiences. We’re building a place where adults can make meaningful friendships, try new things, and bring a little more magic and play into their lives.

Description

We’re looking for a Senior Community Manager to own the health and operation of our online community.

This is a hands-on role with meaningful strategic responsibility. You’ll work directly with members and participate in community programming while also owning the priorities, systems, structure, and strategy that allow the community to grow.

You’ll work closely with our founders on overall direction and flagship programming, but will have significant ownership over how the Community function operates, including programming, member leadership, communications, systems, metrics, and team management.

A major focus of the role will be helping Whimsy Forge become increasingly member-led, developing members into hosts, facilitators, Squad Leaders, and other community leaders rather than making programming dependent on founders or staff.

You’ll also manage our Community Coordinator, who will primarily support the coordination and execution needed to carry out Community priorities.

What You’ll Own

  • Community health and member experience: Stay close to what members are experiencing, build relationships with highly engaged members, identify friction and opportunities, and help improve engagement and retention.
  • Community strategy and priorities: Evaluate what is and isn’t working and determine what the Community team should improve, test, simplify, or stop doing. Use member feedback, company priorities, and community data to guide decisions.
  • Member leadership: Create systems for identifying, recruiting, training, supporting, and recognizing member hosts, Squad Leaders, facilitators, and other community leaders.
  • Recurring community programming: Set direction for community calls, book clubs, workshops, social experiences, and member-led programming. Determine the programming mix, schedules, formats, hosts, and opportunities for members to take greater ownership.
  • Flagship programs and challenges: Partner with our founder and creative team on major programs, then translate the agreed direction into an executable Community plan. Own timelines, coordination, delegation, and follow-through, and continuously improve our program runbooks.
  • Community systems: Create clear, repeatable processes and documentation for recurring work. Keep important projects, decisions, responsibilities, and member commitments visible in shared company systems.
  • Community platform: Maintain a clear strategy for spaces, calendars, archives, and information architecture, continually simplifying and improving the member experience as the community grows.
  • Community communications and moderation: Independently write and publish routine announcements and member emails, monitor Community dynamics, and use sound judgment when handling moderation and sensitive member situations.
  • Measurement and improvement: Track indicators such as retention, activation, active members, event participation, program completion, member leadership, and member sentiment, and recommend actions based on what we learn.
  • Team leadership: Set priorities for our Community Coordinator, delegate recurring execution and operational work, establish expectations and deadlines, provide feedback, and create accountability around agreed responsibilities.

How You’ll Work

The Senior Community Manager will be accountable for the overall success of the Community function, while the Community Coordinator will primarily support coordination and execution.

You’ll work closely with our founders but are expected to independently manage the normal operation of Community.

We expect a regular weekly meeting for strategy and alignment, with most routine coordination happening asynchronously.

You should be comfortable:

  • Setting and adjusting priorities across multiple Community initiatives.
  • Making routine programming, moderation, and operational decisions.
  • Identifying risks or capacity issues early and proposing solutions.
  • Creating and improving systems when recurring work needs more structure.
  • Delegating effectively while remaining willing to jump into hands-on work when useful.
  • Developing other people rather than personally becoming the center of every Community experience.
  • Moving comfortably between strategic thinking and execution.

Our founder, Charity, will remain closely involved in the creative direction of our major challenges and programs. You’ll partner with her to turn those ideas into organized, engaging, and reliably executed Community experiences.

This Role May Not Be a Fit If...

  • You prefer highly structured work where priorities and next steps are usually defined for you.
  • You’re looking for a role focused primarily on member engagement and facilitation rather than a mix of community strategy, operations, and hands-on execution.
  • Building processes, documentation, and repeatable systems isn’t something you naturally enjoy.
  • You’d rather personally lead most community experiences than build a strong network of members who can lead them.
  • You prefer focusing on immediate community activity over using metrics, member feedback, and business goals to decide what deserves attention.
  • You’re most comfortable escalating decisions upward rather than making judgment calls, proposing solutions, and taking ownership of the outcome.

What We’re Looking For

  • Meaningful experience managing or owning an online community, membership, or similarly high-engagement member experience.
  • Strong instincts around community-building, belonging, moderation, and member relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to build systems and improve recurring processes.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and project-management skills.
  • Excellent written communication and sound judgment.
  • Experience managing recurring programming, projects, and overlapping deadlines.
  • Experience developing ambassadors, moderators, volunteers, hosts, or other community leaders.
  • Experience managing or delegating work to another team member.
  • Comfort facilitating live online experiences and creating polished materials in tools such as Canva.
  • Ability to use both data and qualitative member feedback to understand community health.
  • Experience working autonomously in a remote environment.

Especially Helpful

  • Experience with Circle, Discord, or another online community platform.
  • Experience with paid memberships or subscription businesses.
  • Experience in fitness, wellness, creator communities, fandom, gaming, education, or experiential communities.
  • Experience building a member-leadership or ambassador program from scratch.
  • Experience joining a rapidly growing community and bringing more structure to it.

What Success Looks Like in Your First 90 Days

Within your first 90 days, we expect you to have:

  • Audited the existing community and developed a clear view of what should change, stay, and stop.
  • Established baseline community-health metrics and a simple recurring reporting cadence.
  • Begun simplifying our community structure and improving how recurring work is organized and documented.
  • Designed a stronger pathway for members to become hosts and community leaders.
  • Taken ownership of recurring community programming and calls while beginning to move appropriate experiences toward member leadership.
  • Successfully owned the Community execution of at least one major challenge or program and improved the runbook afterward.
  • Established an effective working rhythm with our founders where you own follow-through and bring recommendations for larger decisions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $90,000–$110,000 annual salary
  • Fully remote within the U.S.
  • Flexible work schedule
  • 15 paid vacation days annually
  • 7.5 paid sick days annually
  • 9 paid company holidays

Hiring Process

We’ll be accepting applications through September 6 and reviewing them on a rolling basis. We may begin reaching out to strong candidates before the application window closes, but all applications received by the deadline will be considered before we select our finalists.

Our process will include:

  • Application review
  • A 45-minute conversation with selected candidates to learn more about their experience, judgment, and approach to community leadership
  • A short paid work sample for a small group of finalists, based on realistic work from the role
  • A deeper conversation about the project and how we’d work together
  • Reference checks before a final offer

We’ve found that seeing how someone thinks through realistic work gives both sides a much better sense of fit than simply adding more rounds of traditional interviews.
