About Whelan Financial
In short, we are looking for the best! Whelan Financial has worked hard to establish a warm, client-centered culture with a reputation for providing exceptional service. We are a fast-paced firm, and we are looking for people who aren’t afraid of a challenge and who are seeking a career rather than simply a job.
To that end, we seek to attract and retain elite talent—people who demonstrate integrity, intelligence, and energy. Our most successful team members go beyond the task at hand. They care deeply about the well-being of our clients, the quality of their work, and the continued betterment of the company.
We value individuals who are intellectually curious, take ownership of their responsibilities, and continually look for ways to improve how we serve our clients and operate as a firm.
We also care about our employees—their growth, their ideas, and their overall well-being. In addition to a competitive benefits package, we have regular conversations about career growth and seek to stay ahead of the evolving needs of our team.
The Opportunity
Whelan Financial is seeking another CFA® charterholder to join our investment team in a research and trading-focused role. This individual will work closely with and primarily support our Chief Investment Officer and Chief Trading Officer in investment research, portfolio analysis, and trade execution.
Unlike our Investment Advisor roles, this position is not primarily client-facing. It is designed for someone who enjoys the analytical side of wealth management and wants to spend the majority of their time researching investments, evaluating opportunities, supporting portfolio decisions, and helping translate investment strategy into effective execution.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and sound judgment matter. We are looking for someone who can dig deeply into an investment question while also understanding how that research fits into the broader objectives of client portfolios and the firm’s investment philosophy.
Core Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting fundamental and quantitative investment research across relevant asset classes, securities, funds, and investment strategies
- Supporting the Chief Investment Officer in evaluating investment opportunities and developing research to inform portfolio and asset allocation decisions
- Monitoring and analyzing existing investments, portfolio exposures, market developments, and economic conditions
- Preparing investment research, analysis, recommendations, and supporting materials for internal review
- Supporting the Chief Trading Officer with trade preparation, execution, allocation, reconciliation, and related trading activities
- Assisting with portfolio implementation, rebalancing, and cash management across client accounts
- Evaluating investment vehicles and conducting ongoing due diligence on funds, managers, securities, and strategies
- Maintaining accurate investment, trading, and research records in accordance with firm policies and applicable regulatory requirements
- Collaborating with advisors and other team members when investment research or portfolio analysis is needed to support client planning
- Identifying opportunities to improve investment research, portfolio management, trading, and reporting processes
- Assisting with investment-related and firmwide projects as assigned

- CFA® charterholder
- High degree of personal integrity, sound judgment, and ownership
- Appropriate securities licensing for the responsibilities of the position

- Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate conclusions clearly and concisely
- Strong proficiency with Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite
- Comfort learning and working across investment, portfolio management, trading, and financial technology platforms
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and produce accurate work in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a remote environment while remaining highly collaborative with the broader team (if applicable)
