The primary focus of this position will be completing scheduled preventive maintenance services and identifying needed repairs before they lead to breakdowns or extended downtime. The mechanic may also assist with diagnostics and repairs based on experience and fleet needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services
- Complete oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks
- Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, tires, electrical systems, belts, hoses, and other vehicle components
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues
- Diagnose and repair DEF, DPF, and other emissions-system issues
- Perform brake, air-system, cooling-system, and other general fleet repairs
- Identify safety concerns and additional repairs during PM inspections
- Document completed services, repairs, and parts used
- Communicate vehicle condition and repair recommendations to management
- Test-drive vehicles following maintenance or repairs
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe
Required Qualifications
- Previous professional experience maintaining and repairing medium- or heavy-duty diesel trucks
- Strong experience performing preventive maintenance services
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, and emissions systems
- Ability to diagnose and complete repairs independently
- Valid Class B CDL or higher
- Acceptable driving record and ability to operate and test-drive company vehicles
- Must provide personal hand tools and standard mechanic tools needed to complete routine maintenance and repairs
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and work underneath and around commercial vehicles
- Dependable attendance and ability to work with limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualified or certified to perform DOT inspections
- ASE certifications
- Experience using diesel diagnostic software and scan tools
- Experience working on vocational trucks, hydraulic systems, or PTO-driven equipment
- Welding and fabrication experience
