Pay: This position has an hourly wage of $19 an hour for up to 20 hours a week and is classified as non-exempt. This salary is anticipated to increase as our org budget does. We do not offer any more benefits at this time. 

Start Date: This is a part time permanent position, starting on August 10th with an in person convening August 13 – 18 that is required to attend. 

Location Requirements and Preferences: This role is required to reside in Washington State. Washington Youth Alliance is proud to call ourselves a truly statewide organization, and as such prioritizes hiring individuals who are rooted in community and can bring their experiences to our youth-led organization. We are prioritizing applications from outside King County, with a particular emphasis on the following geographies, although all are welcome to apply: Eastern Washington, North Central Washington, South Western Washington, and the Olympic Peninsula. 

This position will be remote, with occasional travel for meeting with donors and staff retreats.

Washington Youth Alliance Overview:

We are Washington’s only truly youth-led 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and State PAC that builds authentic statewide youth power by transforming young people's stories and lived experiences into action, creating youth-led chapters that educate, advocate, and organize for mental health support, gun violence prevention, access to a healthier democracy, and other systemic changes young people need.

We envision a world where Washington is designed to serve the needs of and address problems specific to young people, and where young people are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to shape systems so it continues to address issues that impact young people. 

What do we define as youth-led?

We define youth-led as having young people ages 13-24, but particularly those not in College, at the center of everything we are doing and hope to do. Our boards are 85% under the age of 24 with 33.3% being under the age of 18 and from local chapters.

Position Overview:

The Development Associate keeps our fundraising running and makes the Executive Director and Board’s time with donors as productive as it can be. You will maintain the systems that track donors, grants, and the pipeline, staff the Executive Director's donor call time, research prospects, handle acknowledgments and stewardship, and staff the board's Development Committee. The role reports to the Chief of Staff. 

Position Responsibilities:

Development Operations & Fundraising

• Maintain and update fundraising trackers and donor databases to ensure information is accurate and actionable
• Support core fundraising operations including data entry, donor acknowledgments, and coordination across entities
• Staff the Executive Director's donor call time including but not limited to building the call lists, preparing donor briefings and talking points, staging the materials, and owning the follow-up. 

Donor Research & Stewardship

• Conduct prospect research on individual, foundation, and corporate donors to expand and refine the fundraising pipeline
• Support donor stewardship through thank-you notes and impact reporting
• Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and presentations for donor meetings and events
• Contribute to donor-facing communications including newsletters, donor spotlights, and campaign materials
• Assist with logistics and follow-up for special events and fundraising campaigns

What we are looking for:

Excellent organization and attention to detail, with a habit of keeping information accurate and on schedule.

• Comfort working in spreadsheets and learning a donor database/CRM. 
• Clear, non AI generated warm writing for donor-facing communications.
• Sound judgment and discretion handling confidential donor and financial information.
• The ability to work independently and hold several threads at once in a small, fast-moving team.
• Comfortable working in ambiguity and a “start up” environment.
• Interest in youth civic engagement and in building youth power in Washington.

This is an entry-level role. We expect to train the right person on our systems, and we welcome applicants who are early in their careers.
