Wardenski P.C. is a boutique, mission-centered, plaintiff-side civil rights law firm that challenges discrimination in education, housing, and health care, with a focus on the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. The firm is based in New York with a second office in Washington, DC. The firm routinely co-counsels with national civil rights organizations and other plaintiff-side law firms in litigating our cutting-edge public interest cases across the country.

Overview

Wardenski P.C. is seeking applications from second- and third-year law students interested in civil rights litigation careers for part-time (12-15 hours/week) semester-long or year-long legal internships for the 2026-2027 school year.

Our Work

The firm’s current litigation docket includes:

• Talbott v. United States (D.D.C.), a class action challenge to the Trump Administration’s ban on military service by transgender individuals;

• Gordon v. Aetna (D. Conn.), a putative class action challenge to Aetna’s categorical insurance coverage exclusion on gender-affirming facial surgeries for transgender people;

• Fair Housing Partnership of Greater Pittsburgh v. AION Management (D. Del.), a fair housing lawsuit brought by three nonprofit fair housing organizations against a multi-state property management company for refusing to consider assigned parking as a reasonable accommodation for tenants with physical disabilities;

• Capasso v. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (N.Y. Supreme Court), a suit against a major cancer center by a transgender woman who experienced years of misgendering and other gender-based discrimination as a patient; and

• Parsons v. Hellas Condominiums (D. Maine), a fair housing lawsuit against a Maine condominium association by a homeowner who was denied reasonable accommodations for her disability.

Position Description

Legal interns work closely with the firm’s attorneys on active litigation matters and new case development. We welcome applications from law students with a sincere interest in pursuing a career in civil rights law and advocacy, particularly those with a demonstrated commitment to, and relevant experience with, one or more of the firm’s core issue areas: LGBTQ+ equality, students’ rights, fair housing, and health equity. The law clerk’s responsibilities will include conducting legal and factual research, conducting client intake interviews, proofreading and cite-checking briefs and pleadings, and assisting with discovery in active cases. Candidates must have excellent legal research, writing, editing, and communication skills. The firm welcomes applications from current second- and third-year law students (or the equivalent in part-time programs).

Work Schedule and Location

Legal interns work 12-15 hours per week in the firm’s New York office, located at 134 West 29th Street in Manhattan. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate class schedules, breaks, and exams. Fall semester internships will begin in late August/early September 2027 and conclude in December 2026. Spring internships will begin in January 2027 and run through late April or early May 2027. Year-long internships will run from late August/early September 2026 through late April/early May 2027.

Compensation

Compensation will be $26.50/hour. Wardenski P.C. is a private law firm with a public interest focus, and internships at the firm may, at some law schools, be eligible for school-based funding or academic credit in lieu of compensation. If you are eligible for outside funding or academic credit, please note that in your cover letter.
