VOX ATL is seeking a creative and motivated Communications intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will support managing and enhancing VOX ATL's online presence through social media platforms, creating engaging content, and implementing communication strategies to amplify the organization's impact. This role is ideal for someone who is looking to continue to develop their skills, build a portfolio, and while supporting other VOXers’ work.

VOX ATL is media and holistic youth development organization serving Metro Atlanta teens ages 13-19. VOX ATL's mission is to prepare teens for life, career, and community by harnessing the power of youth voice and uncensored self-expression.

Description

Schedule and Compensation

  • Location: Hybrid, primarily virtual + in person - as needed 
  • Schedule: At least 10 hours per week
  • Salary: $10 per hour 


Responsibilities will include:


Communications & Public Relations 

  • Draft internal and external communications about VOX ATL programming 


Social Media Strategy and Content Development


  • Create content for social media to enhance brand visibility and engagement
  • Create and schedule content across platforms, such as Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Threads  
  • Contribute to communication plans promoting VOX ATL's programs, events, and initiatives
  • Promote teen content on social media platforms
  • Partner with VOX teen content creators to collect social media content and identify new strategies for social media engagement 


Event Support

  • Create content and take photos at VOX events, including (Open House, Saturday Programming, and Winter Showcase)


Qualifications / Required Skills

  • Proven experience in social media management, content creation, news writing, public relations, and/or web management
  • Strong understanding of youth culture, trends, journalism principles, and web best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in social media analytics tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
  • Applicants must be current VOX ATL participants and must be 18 or younger. Applicants must have experience in creating media at VOX ATL. Applicants must be willing to support positive youth development and principles of power-sharing. 


Schedule & Compensation:

  • This is a semester-long internship (Aug. - Dec). 
  • This position averages 10 hours per week.
  •  Additional scheduling will be coordinated with the Digital Media Specialist.
  • Key Dates Include:
  • VOX ATL Internship Logistics Call - Thursday, August 6, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
  • Intern Training (Understanding your role, ambassadorship, media skills, peer editing, and mentorship) - Tuesday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the VOX ATL Office.
  • VOX ATL Open House - Sat. Aug. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
  • Weekly Intern Meetings - Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting on August 18 (In-person).
  • Skills Sessions - Held two Wednesdays per month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (alternating between virtual and in-person sessions)
  • Production Meetings - Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (In-person)
  • Studios Media Training - Sat. Sept. 5
  • Winter Showcase - Sat. Dec 12 
  • Intern Close Out - Tue. Dec. 15
  • Additional dates for community events and story assignments TBD 
  • This position will require in-person leadership, so the intern should be able to work from the VOX ATL office and community partner locations (transportation to be provided or supported with MARTA fare, parking as needed) 
  • You will track your time using VOX’s time-tracking process; compensation is $10/hour for up to 10 hours per week.
