See all opportunities at VitriVax, Inc: HERE The Senior Scientist Particle Interface position in the Particle Engineering department is responsible for understanding and controlling the surface interfaces of spray dried powders. This includes knowledge of formulation, spray dry parameters, and powder characterization. This role reports to the Head of Particle Engineering and will work alongside other VitriVax technical departments. This is a full-time position, located in Boulder, Colorado. This is a predominantly in-office position, however remote work may be granted periodically depending on the nature of required tasks.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design and develop spray dry formulations to achieve desired surface composition targets for various functional properties (e.g., solubility, targeting, controlled release).
  • Conduct and optimize laboratory-scale spray drying experiments, utilizing advanced equipment and techniques.
  • Characterize the surface composition and morphology of dry powders using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., XPS, Raman spectroscopy, SEM).
  • Interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights for further formulation development.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., chemists, biologists, engineers) to translate research into commercially viable products.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for spray drying processes.
  • Stay informed about current advancements in spray drying, colloidal chemistry, and surface analysis techniques.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals related to your research findings.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, or a related field preferred with a focus on colloidal chemistry and/or surface science.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience with >2 years experience in spray drying of complex materials (e.g., proteins, polymers, nanoparticles).
  • Strong understanding of the principles of colloidal chemistry and their influence on surface phenomena.
  • Experience with various surface analysis techniques (e.g., XPS, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, AFM).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in driving projects forward.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing and data analysis.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment is a plus

Salary and Benefits:

Annual Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 DOE and alignment with current and future responsibilities.
