Grow Your Clinical Skills. Build Toward Licensure

At Virginia Family Wellness, we see pre-licensed clinicians as essential members of our clinical team. We are committed to developing your skills by giving you meaningful responsibility, strong mentorship, and professional respect. We are seeking a motivated Resident in Counseling to join us as an IOP/PHP Group Clinician.

You will serve as the primary group facilitator for our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and also support groups in our in-person Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). This is an opportunity to gain experience across two levels of care in a boutique setting while completing your LPC residency in Virginia.

The "Wellness" Advantage

Two Levels of Care: Lead IOP groups and gain hands-on experience supporting our PHP, building a versatile clinical skill set early in your career.

Hours That Count: Every group you lead is direct client contact toward the 2,000 direct hours required for LPC licensure in Virginia. Between IOP and PHP groups, you can build direct hours quickly.

Team-Based Model: Our therapists rotate across IOP and PHP sessions, so no one clinician carries the load alone. You get variety, built-in support, and protection from burnout.

Room to Grow: This part-time role has a clear path to full-time as our programs grow, including our planned in-person IOP step-down group.

Key Responsibilities

Lead IOP Groups: Facilitate IOP Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (three 1-hour sessions, mostly virtual), creating a safe, dynamic, and empathetic milieu for clients engaging with anxiety, depression, and trauma. We do not accept active psychosis, aggressive detox, or acuity that belongs in a hospital setting.

Support PHP: Rotate into PHP groups alongside our PHP clinicians, sharing the group load so the team stays fresh and supported. PHP is always in person and runs Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, in five 1-hour sessions.

Design Curriculum: Exercise your creativity by designing engaging group topics (e.g., Art Therapy, ACT, Mindfulness) in collaboration with our Clinical Director.

Coordinate Care: Manage intakes, help oversee daily group schedules, complete timely and accurate documentation, and collaborate with the treatment team and families to ensure a holistic approach to client support.

Manage Risk: Develop skills in risk assessment and crisis management under the direct mentorship of experienced clinical leadership.

Why You Will Thrive Here

Predictable Schedule: IOP meets Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. IOP is currently mostly virtual, with the potential to expand to an in-person group. No evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Consistent Hours: IOP and PHP groups combine for 20–32 hours per week, with a path to full-time as our programs grow.

Invested Supervision: We provide your weekly licensure supervision at no cost (an approximate value of $5,000/year), supporting your continuous learning and development.

Mentorship: You will report directly to the Clinical Director and receive training in advanced clinical skills, group facilitation, and program operations.

Qualifications

Licensure: Must be approved (or eligible immediately) as a Resident in Counseling with the Virginia Board of Counseling.

Education: Master's Degree in Counseling.

Experience: Previous group facilitation experience is required (IOP, PHP, or Inpatient experience is a strong plus).

Attributes: We are looking for a clinician who balances clinical expertise with creativity. You should feel comfortable facilitating dynamic groups and addressing complex situations with calm confidence.

Compensation

Pay: $36–$40 per hour, based on experience, paid for all hours worked, including groups, documentation, and intakes.

Hours: 20–32 hours per week, primarily IOP groups, plus PHP group support, documentation, and care coordination.

Path to Full-Time: Opportunity to transition to a full-time position as programs grow.

Benefits: Free weekly licensure supervision, plus free professional training and CEUs. This part-time position is not eligible for medical, retirement, or PTO benefits.
