Job Description: The Director of Maintenance (Uncrewed Aerial Systems or UAS) will develop and manage Verteel’s UAS maintenance programs, maintenance manuals, and training. Reporting to the Director of Flight Operations, this role will collaborate closely with the engineering and executive management team.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage the flight operations team, maintenance, and support personnel as Verteel's FAA Part 119 Director of Maintenance under Part 135.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and manuals for UAS maintenance for Verteel's Continuous Aircraft Maintenance Program (CAMP).
  • Serve as the point of contact for UAS manufacturers to develop best practices.
  • Complete preventative and recurring maintenance on Verteel UASs and conduct test flights.
  • Manage field maintenance of UASs and support drone delivery operations.
  • Develop and administer training programs and manage maintenance hiring.
  • Oversee risk management of drone flight operations and maintenance standards.
  • Ensure compliance and engagement with FAA regulations and state/local government.

Minimum Requirements:


  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate (A&P)
  • FAA Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot Certificate
  • 1 year of professional aircraft or UAS maintenance experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) or Associates degree with 1 year of aircraft/UAS maintenance management experience
  • Experience with drones, computer programming, and autonomous systems
  • Ability to obtain FAA 3rd Class Medical Certificate
  • US driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:


  • FAA Inspector Authorization
  • Previous management experience in commercial or military UAS program
  • 3 years of aircraft maintenance experience within the last 6 years
  • Experience under FAA part 135 (especially involving Continuous Aircraft Maintenance Program)
  • Master’s degree in a related field or at least 3 years of experience with at least 1 in management
  • Previous experience with drone delivery
  • Entrepreneurship and startup experience
  • FAA 3rd class medical certificate

Time Commitment and Availability:


  • Participate in 2x 1-hour weekly calls with leadership team, manufacturing partners, and FAA regulators.
  • Hybrid role with the ability to come to Verteel’s office in Manhattan and location in NJ 1-2 times per month. Fully remote will be considered for candidates with specific experience.
  • Expect to commit at least 8-12 hours per week depending on workload.
  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time depending operational requirements.

Compensation:


  • Hourly range of $20-55 per hour depending on experience and project.
  • Possible employee stock option offer after meeting certain project milestones.
  • Travel and expenses will be reimbursed by Verteel.
