Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Coating Engineer to join our engineering team in Newark, DE. In this role, you will focus on developing, testing and manufacturing of AEM membranes. This is a full-time, fully on-site role requiring physical presence in our manufacturing, laboratory and office spaces, with no work-from-home options due to the hands-on nature of the development and production tasks. You will bridge the gap between laboratory development and full-scale manufacturing, analyzing polymer behaviors and driving product performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze polymer solution behavior to optimize formulation and coating performance.
- Create lab-scale membrane coatings through precise formulation and application techniques.
- Aid in membrane production runs to successfully scale up technologies from lab to manufacturing.
- Characterize membrane properties utilizing a variety of specialized lab-scale testing equipment.
- Perform electrochemical testing of membranes in electrolyzers to evaluate in-situ performance and durability.
- Perform rigorous data analysis on test results to guide engineering decisions.
- Present data clearly and share technical updates during mandatory weekly team meetings.
- Ensure safety is strictly observed across all laboratory and production tasks.
- Collaborate with toll coaters to support production ensuring timeline production at quality
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience working with polymer formulations, coatings, or membrane fabrication.
- Strong analytical skills with experience processing and interpreting experimental data.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
- Excellent communication skills to present technical findings to cross-functional teams.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Familiarity with electrochemical testing methodologies and equipment (e.g., potentiostats, impedance spectroscopy) is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, SPC, Quality is a strong plus.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and use basic metrology is a plus.
- Eligible to work legally in United States.
The following is preferred for this role:
- 2-3 years’ experience in coatings technology to make membranes and membrane composites. Experience with fluoropolymer membranes preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing lab scale demonstrations to commercial products.
- Experience with commercial scale, complex, multi-stage coating and drying processes.
- Six sigma certification or training in statistical analysis.
