About Vehicle Grid Integration Council

The Vehicle-Grid Integration Council (VGIC) is a national 501(c)6 trade association working to advance policies and market opportunities that enable electric vehicles to support a more reliable, affordable, and flexible electric grid. We bring together utilities, automakers, technology companies, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders to accelerate vehicle-grid integration (VGI).

Description

Responsibilities

  • Track policy and regulatory developments: Monitor key regulatory proceedings, legislation, utility reporting, and other developments related to VGI, transportation electrification, managed charging, bidirectional charging, distributed energy resources, and grid modernization.
  • Analyze and support research and advocacy: Assess the potential impact of these developments on VGIC and its members, and provide clear, concise updates and recommendations. Draft regulatory comments, presentations, and related materials, supporting VGIC's engagement strategy in priority states.
  • Support education and communications: Help prepare presentations, webinars, briefings, and other materials that communicate the value of VGI to policymakers, utilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Build relationships: Support engagement with policymakers, utilities, technology providers, advocates, researchers, and VGIC members. Participate in relevant meetings, working groups, and coalitions.

What You’ll Gain

  • Gain exposure to utilities, regulators, policymakers, technology providers, and advocates working on distributed energy resources, virtual power plants, clean energy, and sustainable transportation
  • Learn how state energy and transportation electrification policy gets shaped across multiple jurisdictions
  • Build professional relationships in a growing area of clean energy and transportation policy
  • Work on a flexible, remote schedule that fits around coursework or other commitments

Preferred Experience

  • Current or recent graduate student with experience or academic background in energy policy, utility regulation, transportation electrification, clean energy, public policy, or a related field.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Interest in topics at the intersection of transportation and the electric grid, including managed charging, bidirectional charging, demand response, or distributed energy resources.
  • Familiarity with state energy policy, utility regulation, or public utility commission processes is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex issues and communicate them clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a flexible, remote environment.
  • Experience or relationships with utilities, regulators, policymakers, or other energy-sector stakeholders is a plus, but not required.
