THE POSITION:

Provides supervision and direction to children in a school-aged child care program. Assists in providing day to day supervision and management of Vashon Kids child care site. May participate with field trips. Assists in maintaining safety and program engagement for every child.

Detailed Responsibilities:

1.     Supervise a children attending Vashon Kids school-age program to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for every child.

2.     Maintain ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, cleanliness and learning environment of site

3.     Follow VYFS policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and reporting, and emergency procedures

4.     Communicate with and maintain positive relationship with parents and caregivers of children in program

5.     May prepare, serve snacks and/or clean snack area as directed by site supervisor

6.     Provide assistance to supervisor as requested, including filling in during temporary absences of other staff

7.     Plan and implement programs to serve Vashon Kids children in accordance with the goals and policies of Vashon Kids and Vashon Youth and Family Services

8.     Provide guidance as needed to staff and volunteers participating in Vashon Kids activities

9.     Other duties as requested by supervisor

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

All child care positions and staff are required to meet the licensing standards established by the Department of Early Learning. All credentials and training requirements listed are based upon the current interpretation by VYFS and the Vashon Kids Program Director. These requirements are not inclusive and are subject to change.

CREDENTIALS REQUIRED:

1.     Complete without negative report a Portable Background Check[1]

2.     Current state-approved first aid certificate[2]

3.     Current state approved community CPR certification[3]

4.     Pass TB test administered by Mantoux Method[4]

5.     Current Washington State Food Worker Card[5]

6.     HIV/AIDS training certificate[6]

7.     Present all credentialing within a timely fashion and maintain current status during duration of employment

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND TRAINING REQUIRED

1.     Must be 18 years of age or older on date of hire

2.     Minimum two years’ experience working with school-age children

3.     Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices

4.     Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)

5.     Spanish-language fluency a plus

Salary

$20.82 - $22 per hour
