Job Description
Family Place Drop-In and Staff Childcare Provider
Family Place is offering limited staff and family “drop-in” childcare in our playroom. Childcare will be offered three afternoons per week for 3.5 hours per day, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is a pilot program to test the need and effectiveness of this service for families and staff with young children.
Reports to: Mary Rose, Program Director, Family Place, Vashon Youth & Family Services
Structure and Procedures: There will be three childcare workers with the children at all times. The Childcare Handbook provides guidelines for both staff and children’s caregivers. A registration system is established for parents to reserve care and to provide Family Place with all necessary health and emergency contact information. More detailed information is in the handbook.
The childcare providers are responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being and developmental growth of children through structured activities, daily care, and educational support in a nurturing environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Child Supervision and Safety: Monitor children continuously to prevent injuries and ensure a secure environment.
•
Daily Care: Assist with personal hygiene, diapering, toileting, and snacks.
•
Educational Activities: Plan and implement age-appropriate activities including arts, crafts, book-reading, motor and cognitive games to enhance learning and curiosity.

Behavior and Social Development: Support positive social interactions, encourage observation of playroom rules, employ positive behavior management strategies and foster emotional growth.

Family Communication: Share updates on children's progress, routines, and milestones with parents or guardians, maintaining open and effective communication.
•
Record Keeping: Facilitate caregivers signing in and signing out for their children. Report any incidents to supervisor and assist with filling out an incident report form when needed. Review children’s information forms before each session to be familiar with any special needs.

Health and Safety Compliance: Administer basic first aid or CPR as needed, follow emergency procedures, and maintain cleanliness in play areas.
Communication: Keeping parents informed of program expectations, program activities, and their child’s progress is vital to the success of our program. You must be able to listen to parents and maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with them. Open and positive communication with coworkers and management is expected at all times.

Training: Childcare providers will be trained in all procedures, including registration of children, monitoring health, supervising or providing hygienic care, emergency procedures.
Hours and Rate of pay. Childcare providers will work three afternoons a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 1:00pm to 5:30pm. This is an hourly position paying $23 hour.
