Job Description

Wage: $19.00 per hour, plus a productivity based bonus program

Location: In office

Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mountain Time, Full Time

Overview

Municipalities rely on accurate, timely utility billing to keep water, sewer, and other city services funded and running. As a Utility Specialist at Valiflo, you will support municipal clients who are using our billing platform to ensure their utility customers are billed accurately and to understand and recover their utility related costs. You will work directly with city utility departments to keep billing cycles accurate and customers well served.

Responsibilities

This role covers utility management and client support, so your day to day work may include any of the following:

Utility Management

• Prepare timely and accurate utility billing statements for municipal utility customers using Valiflo's software
• Calculate charges based on meter reads, rate tables, and municipal fee schedules
• Review utility related costs and expenses to help municipalities understand what they are paying for and why
• Identify anomalies or irregularities in usage, billing, or expenses and work with the city to resolve them
• Help ensure optimal recovery of utility related costs so municipalities are billing accurately and not leaving revenue on the table
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies raised by utility customers or city staff
• Maintain strong accuracy and timeliness standards across all billing cycles

Client and Account Support

• Serve as a point of contact for municipal client questions on billing and invoicing
• Help onboard new municipal accounts, gathering the utility, rate, and fee details needed to set up accurate billing
• Confirm rates, fees, and billing methods comply with state and municipal regulations
• Flag recurring issues to the team and help identify process improvements

Qualifications

Because this role has regular contact with municipal clients and their utility customers, we look for team members who bring:

• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and timeliness
• Willingness to learn our in-house software
• Comfort with Excel and Google Workspace
• Strong self management and the ability to prioritize a shifting workload
• Clear, professional communication by phone and email
• Comfort researching and solving problems independently

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 or more years working in an office environment or directly with professional clients preferred
• Experience with billing or cost recovery software is a plus, but not required
