The Peer Exchange (PX) consisting of the leaders of 10 Bronzeville-based cultural organizations seeks a Director to manage the initiatives designed to revitalize Bronzeville.

The Black Cultural Sites Development - Peer Exchange (PX) combines the leaders of 10 Bronzeville-based cultural organizations in a collaborative effort to share experiences and networks as we develop, restore, and/or substantially expand our real estate facilities and contribute to the revitalization of our community. Over the past year, the PX has developed a set of shared objectives, robust intra-PX relationships, six joint initiatives designed to move the PX forward, and a growing group of stakeholders in the philanthropic and civic arenas.   


The PX Director will support PX leaders in advancing the joint work of our collaborative:


  • Manage all PX events and operations, including leading the organization of quarterly in-person PX meetings and supporting other PX events and trips 
  • Ensure members’ continuous alignment on PX initiatives
  • Facilitate information sharing amongst PX institutions, including events and resources
  • Work with PX leaders to drive progress of each of the PX initiatives, including advocacy, development of a community impact report, establishment of alternate/additional approaches to securing capital, development a music ecosystem, engagement of stakeholders in the philanthropic and civic arenas, and further development of the PX infrastructure
  • Develop sources of support through networking and grant writing
  • Maintain reporting and evaluation processes for the Peer Exchange


Strong candidates will have the following background, skills and attributes:


  • A minimum of 5 years of leadership within for- and/or not-for-profit enterprises
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse set of leaders and their organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Significant experience running a business, cultural, or community enterprise
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and work independently 
  • Strong financial skills and comfort with the complex financial structures common in community development finance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel) or Apple/Google equivalents and the Google workspace and with social media platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram)
  • Strong project management skills with a minimum of 4 years of project management experience with multiple stakeholders
  • Cultural competency and an understanding of the historical and social context of Bronzeville’s cultural landscape.
  • A deep commitment to revitalizing the Bronzeville community
  • A strong professional network in Chicago


The PX Director is a half-time, contract (1099) and partially remote role.  One to two days of travel outside of Chicago per quarter may be required.  The Director will be provided access to office space and support in Bronzeville. 

The Director will report to the PX convener and will invest time to develop relationships with the leaders of each PX institution and to understand current scope and development goals of their projects.  Success in this role entails making substantial progress towards the defined goals of each PX initiative over the next 6-12 months, as evaluated by the PX initiative leaders and convener.


Compensation: $35,000 - $40,000 annualized (paid on a bi-weekly basis) for 20 hours per week commitment.
