The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Independently designing and prototyping parts and simple assemblies based on given requirements.
• Conducting experiments to evaluate prototypes, products and processes under supervision.
• Working within the engineering team to collaboratively develop, prototype, and evaluate novel device designs. 
• Accurately recording and maintaining experimental data. 
• Analyzing experimental data and reporting on findings.
• Documenting design, assembly and process changes in an organized and timely manner.
• Fabricating and assembling benchtop systems and subsystems.
• Maintaining inventory of critical prototype and equipment components.
• Performing routine maintenance on equipment. 
• Under supervision, building and maintaining production processes and related quality systems.
• Other routine laboratory experimental, data collection and manufacturing related tasks.

Requirements for this position include:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related fields with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Proficient in building 3D models and assemblies and creating 2D machine drawings (Fusion 360 experience preferred).
• Experience developing and testing functional prototypes.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering, physics and mathematics concepts.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. 
• Strong organizational skills. 
• Experience with word processing software and data analysis software.

The following education & experience is preferred:

• Experience reading electrical schematics and PCB layouts.
• Experience with Arduino and PLC programming.
• Previous wet lab experience.
• Basic knowledge of production techniques for plastics, metals, and other common materials.
• Basic understanding of vacuum systems, surface physics and thermodynamics.
• Must work well in a team environment and foster collaboration.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment.
