The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) provides peer-based recovery and re-entry support at our Recovery Community Center, a welcoming drop-in hub for individuals and families. This role offers mentoring, advocacy, resource navigation, and recovery education, while fostering authentic peer-to-peer relationships that honor all pathways to recovery and wellness. The PSS serves as a role model and motivator, helping individuals build recovery or re-entry plans, connect with community resources, and sustain long-term recovery. This position requires in-person work five days per week (including one weekend day) and collaboration with both individuals and partner organizations to support recovery and reintegration.

Classification: Non-Exempt, Full Time
Shift: 3rd Shift - 12:30 AM to 9 AM EST
The Recovery Community Center is the hub of all recovery support programming in a community. This is a low-threshold, drop-in space which offers recovery support and peer services in the form of activities, information, supplies, temporary respite, informal and formal peer engagements and resource navigation to community members, both in the recovery center and in the surrounding community. The peer team of the recovery center provides direct support to individuals and works to build a supportive community around people in recovery, their allies, friends and family which is inclusive of all pathways in recovery and wellness.
Summary: The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) - peer role types including peer recovery support specialists (substance use and/or mental health training); forensic peer specialists; family peer support specialists - will work in partnership with all individuals who may benefit from peer support services. The PSS will deliver services in line with their training and based on the needs of the individuals engaged in their assigned program. The PSS will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, navigator, and motivator to individuals in or seeking recovery in an effort to promote recovery and/or re-entry planning and goal realizations, which may include reductions in harm from substance use and sustaining long-term recovery. The PSS must demonstrate an ability to facilitate recovery and/or re-entry planning that follows diverse recovery pathways (including medication and moderation), consciously share personal recovery experiences as appropriate, develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships, and have an understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique path to recovery and/or reintegration into the community .
