Residential Drywall Worker
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Residential Drywall Finisher to join our construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for applying drywall compound, taping joints, and smoothing out imperfections to prepare walls and ceilings for painting or wallcovering in residential properties.
Our ideal candidate has a sharp eye for detail, takes pride in delivering a flawless, high-quality finish, and works efficiently to meet residential construction timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Tape and Finish: Apply fiberglass mesh or paper tape and multiple coats of joint compound (mud) over joints, corners, and nail/screw indentations.
Sanding & Smoothing: Sand joints and rough spots after each coat to achieve a seamless, smooth, and level surface (typically targeting a Level 4 or Level 5 finish for high-end residential spaces).
Texture Application: Apply various residential texture finishes (e.g., orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel, or smooth wall) according to project specifications.
Surface Preparation: Inspect drywall installation prior to finishing; pre-fill gaps, repair damaged drywall, and ensure surfaces are clean and ready for compound.
Corner Bead Installation: Install and finish metal, plastic, or vinyl corner beads to create clean, straight, and durable exterior corners.
Site Maintenance: Protect existing surfaces (floors, windows, trim) from mud splatters, and maintain a clean, safe work environment daily.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience as a Drywall Finisher/Taper in residential construction or remodeling.
Technical Skill: Proficiency with standard hand tools (taping knives, hawks, trowels, mud pans) and automatic taping tools (bazookas, boxes, poles) is highly preferred.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach overhead for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, or stilts.
Detail-Oriented: Ability to detect minor surface imperfections under critical lighting conditions.
Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctual, and able to work independently or closely with a painting/framing crew.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with dust-less sanding systems to maintain clean residential job sites.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute to various residential job sites.
Basic understanding of OSHA safety standards on residential construction sites.
$25 - $30 per hour
