Position Title: Prep Cook (Kitchen Prep Member)

Department: Kitchen Operations

Reports To: Head Chef

Key Responsibilities:

1. Ingredient Preparation:

  • Wash, peel, chop, dice, and slice vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients.
  • Portion and prepare meats, poultry, seafood, and other proteins according to recipes or instructions.
  • Measure and prepare ingredients accurately for use by cooks and chefs.

2. Workstation Setup and Maintenance:

  • Set up workstations with necessary tools, equipment, and ingredients before shifts.
  • Replenish ingredients and supplies during shifts to avoid interruptions in workflow.
  • Organize prepped items and label them for easy identification and access.

3. Cleaning and Sanitation:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas throughout the shift.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after use.
  • Dispose of trash and food waste properly to uphold hygiene standards.

4. Stock Management:

  • Assist in receiving and inspecting food deliveries to ensure quality and freshness.
  • Properly store ingredients and supplies in designated areas.
  • Rotate stock to minimize waste and maintain freshness.

5. Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Support cooks and chefs by promptly fulfilling their ingredient and prep needs during service.
  • Communicate any issues related to ingredient shortages, equipment malfunctions, or workflow challenges.
  • Adapt to varying demands during high-volume service periods.

6. Adherence to Safety Standards:

  • Follow food safety and hygiene protocols, including proper storage, labeling, and handling of ingredients.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous kitchen experience is an advantage but not mandatory; on-the-job training may be provided.
