We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanic (small engine, truck/fleet, heavy equipment) to join our team as a Mechanic/ Shop Manager. This role involves working with various tools and equipment in a landscape design/build/maintenance setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and a strong knowledge of engine mechanics (diesel and gas), electrical systems, small engines, lawn mowers, trucks/fleets, heavy equipment and hydraulics, etc.

Description

This position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the shop.
  • Perform duties as a small engine, truck/fleet and heavy equipment mechanic. These may be in the shop or on job sites, depending on the repair
  • Manage/complete quality and timely vehicle and equipment repairs
  • Manage/complete quality and timely Winter and Summer
  • Coordinate and oversee fleet cleaning, washing, waxing and greasing
  • Schedule and coordinate all vehicle and equipment repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules
  • Conduct regular truck and equipment inspections
  • Assist in the management of equipment and vehicle inventories
  • Appropriately monitor and communicate vehicle and equipment misuse and abuse
  • Assist in the training of proper use and maintenance for vehicles and equipment
  • Manage shop expenses in accordance with the budget
  • Assist in the electronic tracking and management of maintenance and repairs
  • Administrative duties. These duties include but are not limited to updates to AssetTiger, the shop expense tracker, shop inventory logs, repair ticket management, and maintenance of the shop bulletin board
  • Maintain properly stocked parts rooms
  • Ensure the shop is clean and organized
  • Responds promptly to requests from office and crews
  • Securely and safely maintains service vehicle, equipment, and materials
  • Actively participates in learning opportunities.
  • Assist other production-based departments, as needed
  • Work independently on various projects/tasks as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by management


Requirements: 

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Massachusetts hoisting license (preferred)
  • Ability to carry up to 50 to 100 pounds, 8-10 hours per day
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and lifting heavy parts/equipment
  • Professional appearance
  • Ability to work in a results-oriented environment
  • The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background, excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and a passion for hands-on work
  • Having own tools are a plus, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of engine mechanics (diesel and gas), electrical systems, and hydraulics
  • Experience with diagnostic software and tools ; familiarity with equipment management programs
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • History of using Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direction
  • Availability to work flexible hours based on seasonal demands and deadlines

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a mechanic, specializing in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, and small engines

Salary

$35,000 - $65,000 per year
