Description

We are seeking an intern to join our team and help us create engaging and dynamic social media campaigns. The ideal candidate will have experience with animation software and a passion for creating content that resonates with our audience.

 

Position Title: Social Media Intern

 

Rate: $17/hr (or commensurate with experience)


Schedule: Spring/Fall variable days up to 20 hours per week during business hours. 

Summer/Winter Break variable up to 35 hours per week during business hours.

 

Location: On site

Position Responsibilities:


  • Research and document the historical significance of artists and releases within our extensive master catalog.
  • Draft engaging content, artist spotlights, and "behind the tracks" stories for various platforms to reflect the brand’s legacy.
  • Assist in creating visual and written counterparts to existing raps, breakbeats, and songs.
  • Collaborate with the team to developinnovative content that resonates with both legacy fans and younger, niche audiences.
  • Keep us up-to-date with entertainment industry news and trends relevant to our genres.


Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong portfolio that showcases journalistic or storytelling work.
  • A high degree of organization and attention to detail.
  • Passion for music history, specifically Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, and Jazz.
  • Interest in the music business is a big plus.


Desirable: We especially welcome applications from candidates who can start early. Priority will be given to those seeking academic credit via an externship.

 

Experience preferred:


  • Academic Background: Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Journalism, Communications, Music Business, or African American Studies program.
  • Published Work: Prior experience writing for a school newspaper, music blog, or digital publication. (Personal Substack or Medium accounts are also highly encouraged).
  • Research Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct "deep dives" into archives, liner notes, or historical databases to verify facts and dates.
  • Knowledge of the Genre: A foundational understanding of the "Golden Era" of Hip Hop, 60s/70s Soul/Funk, or the history of sampling.
  • Digital Savvy: Familiarity with Content Management Systems (like WordPress) and basic SEO principles to help our stories reach a wider audience.
  • Interviewing Skills: Experience (or a strong desire to learn) conducting professional interviews with artists, producers, or industry veterans.


Salary

$17 - $20 per hour
