Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead dirt crews performing excavation, grading, and site prep work
  • Plan and assign daily tasks to operators, laborers, and truck drivers
  • Coordinate equipment needs including dozers, excavators, loaders, compactors, and water trucks
  • Interpret grading plans, cut/fill sheets, and site layout information
  • Ensure work is performed to correct line, grade, and slope
  • Monitor soil conditions and coordinate with compaction/testing crews
  • Maintain safe trenching and excavation practices per OSHA standards
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce site safety rules
  • Communicate daily production goals, progress, and issues to the Superintendent
  • Coordinate with surveyors, inspectors, and other trades to avoid conflicts
  • Track material movement, export/import loads, and ensure proper disposal locations
  • Ensure equipment is properly used and maintained; report mechanical issues immediately
  • Train and mentor crew members to improve performance and efficiency

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in civil earthwork/grading operations
  • Previous foreman or lead experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of grading, excavation, and trenching operations
  • Ability to read and understand grading plans and staking information
  • Familiarity with compaction requirements and testing procedures
  • OSHA 10 required (OSHA 30 preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license required
