Position Summary:
As a Senior IT Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing, optimizing, and securing the IT infrastructure of our clients. This role requires both hands-on technical expertise and strong problem-solving skills to support complex IT environments. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and networks, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of managing complex network environments with a focus on cybersecurity best practices. Key Responsibilities:
1. Infrastructure Design and Deployment
- Design, configure, and deploy on-prem and cloud-based network and server infrastructure for clients based on best practices and security standards.
- Assess client requirements, create infrastructure plans, and implement solutions to enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Participate in planning and executing migrations, upgrades, and new installations of hardware, applications, and services.
2. Systems Administration and Support
- Manage and maintain client environments, including servers, storage, network devices, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, AVD).
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance-tuning measures to ensure uptime and efficiency.
- Provide Level 3 support for escalated service requests and act as a technical escalation point and mentor for junior engineers.
3. Security and Compliance
- Implement and maintain security policies, procedures, tools, and protocols to protect client environments.
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and risk analyses to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with clients to enforce backup and disaster recovery plans, ensuring quick and effective response to data loss or security incidents.
4. Automation and Optimization
- Develop scripts and automation solutions to streamline operational tasks and enhance system management.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual effort, and increase efficiency across client environments.
- Maintain and update documentation related to systems configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
5. Client Engagement and Communication
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, providing recommendations on infrastructure improvements and emerging technologies.
- Actively communicate project status, technical issues, and service improvements to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the project management team to ensure project deliverables are met on time and within scope.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE, VCP, CCNA, CISA) are a plus.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in a senior systems engineer or similar role, preferably in an IT managed services or consulting environment.
Technical Skills:
- Operating Systems: Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, and associated services (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP).
- Networking: Strong proficiency in network configuration, firewalls, VPNs, VLAN's, and routing protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP).
- Virtualization: Expertise in VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, and related virtualization technologies.
- Cloud Services: Familiarity with public and private cloud environments (Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and hybrid infrastructure management.
- Security: Expert level understanding of cybersecurity principles, including firewall management, IDS/IPS, network segmentation, endpoint security, EDR/MDR, SASE, zero-trust principles, email security, and backup and disaster recovery technologies.
- Scripting: Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to automate tasks and optimize workflows.
- Tools: Previous experience working with RMM and PSA platforms for remote management and service desk ticketing.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to handle complex technical challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective client and team interactions.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, MCSE
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher
- CompTIA Network+, Security+, or equivalent
- Cybersecurity: CISSP, CCSP, CGRC, ISSAP, ISSMP
