About the job
Triad Equipment rents outdoor power equipment, compact machines, and tools to contractors and homeowners in Wake Forest and the greater Triangle. Our rental fleet is about 230 pieces.
The Rental Associates runs the front line of our rental business. You handle the customer at the counter, load and unload the equipment, and get every unit cleaned, checked, and ready to go back out. Rentals only make money when equipment is on a job site, so how fast and how well you turn a unit around is the job.
What you'll do
Customer check-in and check-out
- Write rental contracts — verify ID and payment per our rental policy, confirm rates and return times, and go over the damage waiver.
- Show every customer how to safely operate the equipment before it leaves the yard.
- Answer phones, take reservations, and keep the reservation board current.
Loading and unloading
- Load equipment onto customer trucks and trailers and secure it.
- Unload returns and stage them in the wash and inspection area.
- Drive and maneuver compact machines — tractors, skid steers, mini skid steers, and excavators — on and off trailers and around the yard.
- Drive the company truck and trailer for equipment deliveries, pickups, and moves between locations.
Turnaround and readiness
- Wash, fuel, and inspect every unit on return. Check hours, fluids, blades, tires, and attachments.
- Write up damage, missing parts, or service needs and hand the unit to the shop with a clear ticket.
- Stage clean, fueled, ready-to-rent units so the next customer never waits on us.
Yard and fleet
- Keep the yard organized, clean, and safe. Everything has a home.
- Help with fleet counts, tagging, and tracking where units are.
Team and customer feedback
- Tell the Rental Manager and technicians what you're hearing: equipment customers asked for that we didn't have, units that break down repeatedly, sizes or attachments we're missing, and how our rates compare to what customers say they can get elsewhere.
- Bring this to the weekly rental meeting. This feedback is how we decide what to add to the fleet and what to retire — it is a real part of the job, not an extra.
What we're looking for
Required
- Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
- Able to drive a truck and trailer — hitching, hauling, backing, and parking a loaded trailer. You will do this regularly.
- Able to safely operate the machines we rent: tractors, skid steers, mini skid steers, and excavators. You will drive these daily to load, unload, and demo them.
- Able to lift 50 lbs on your own and handle heavier equipment with help or a lift.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in heat, cold, and rain.
- Basic computer skills — you'll work in Point of Rental every day (we'll train you on the system).
- Dependable attendance. The counter opens on time.
Preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Previous rental yard, equipment dealer, landscaping, or construction experience.
- Mechanical aptitude — small engine or equipment maintenance experience is a real plus.
What success looks like at 90 days
- Checking customers in and out on your own in Point of Rental, start to finish.
- Loading and unloading tractors, skid steers, mini skid steers, and excavators on your own, safely and without supervision.
- Every unit you touch goes back on the shelf clean, fueled, and correctly tagged.
- Technicians get clear, accurate service tickets from you — no guessing about what's wrong.
- You're bringing at least one piece of useful fleet or customer feedback to the team each week.
Physical requirements
Standing, walking, bending, and lifting for most of the shift. Regular lifting up to 50 lbs and team lifting above that. Climbing on and off machines and operating them. Working around running engines, fuel, and moving equipment. Outdoor work in all seasons.
