How the salary range works

The $30-40k range at 0.5 FTE reflects Transom's budget at our scale and is meant to be set based on the candidate's experience and location. FT-equivalent: $60-80k. Final offers determined by both factors.


Responsibilities

Digital communications

  • Manage Transom's social media presence (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, occasional TikTok)
  • Write and distribute newsletters (All Hear, Over the Transom) and maintain Substack and email lists
  • Update website content and announcements
  • Track audience engagement and analytics; report monthly to leadership

Promotion & audience building

  • Promote stories and audio pieces published on Transom.org
  • Highlight alumni and community stories
  • Promote workshops, programs, and public events (festival, live storytelling)
  • Coordinate marketing materials for programs

Design & podcast support

  • Coordinate graphic design and visual materials; manage freelance designers when needed
  • Maintain visual brand consistency across channels
  • Support promotion and distribution of Transom audio content; assist with podcast communications


Other responsibilities as needed.


Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of communications, marketing, or audience-development experience
  • Strong writing skills — newsletter, social, web, all in the same warm editorial voice
  • Comfort with email marketing tools (Substack, Mailchimp) and basic analytics
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own time at 20 hrs/wk
  • Basic graphic design (Canva, Figma) for in-house assets
  • Experience with WordPress or modern static-site CMS

Preferred

  • Familiarity with audio storytelling, public radio, or podcast production
