Safety-Care Trainer / RBT

Internal Position Description

Position Title: Safety-Care Trainer / Registered Behavior Technician

Position Type: Internal opportunity only

Eligibility: Current employees only

Reports To: Clinical Director / BCBA Supervisor / Operations Manager

Location: Assigned clinic with required travel to other clinic locations as needed

Travel Requirement: Required, sometimes with short notice

Compensation for Certification/Recertification Travel: Current Pay Schedule + 8 paid hours per training day, mileage reimbursement, lodging provided, and per diem as outlined below.


Position Summary

The Safety-Care Trainer / RBT is an internal role available only to current employees of the organization. This position is designed for an experienced and dependable RBT who will continue providing direct ABA therapy services while also being trained to become a Safety-Care Trainer for the company.


No current Safety-Care Trainer certification is required at the time of application. The selected employee will attend the required Safety-Care Trainer training and, once approved/certified, will assist with Safety-Care certification and recertification for BTs/RBTs and other approved employees within the organization.


This role requires flexibility, reliability, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to travel to company locations, sometimes with short notice, using the employee’s personal vehicle.


Important Internal Eligibility Notice

This position is open only to current employees of the organization. External applicants will not be considered.


Applicants do not need to already be Safety-Care Trainer certified. The selected employee will attend company-approved training to become eligible to train other employees in Safety-Care procedures.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct RBT Responsibilities

  • Provide direct 1:1 ABA therapy to clients as scheduled.
  • Implement skill acquisition programs, behavior intervention plans, and treatment goals as written by the supervising BCBA.
  • Collect accurate data during sessions.
  • Complete session notes and required documentation according to company timelines.
  • Follow client-specific protocols for reinforcement, prompting, communication, behavior reduction, transitions, and safety.
  • Communicate client concerns, behavior changes, safety concerns, or treatment barriers to the supervising BCBA.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct during all direct treatment sessions.


Safety-Care Trainer Development

  • Attend required Safety-Care Trainer training as assigned by the company.
  • Complete all requirements necessary to become approved/certified to train other employees.
  • Maintain Safety-Care Trainer certification once obtained.
  • Participate in ongoing trainer updates, recertification, or refresher requirements as needed.
  • Use only company-approved and Safety-Care-approved training materials and procedures.
  • Follow all requirements related to Safety-Care training, staff competency, documentation, and recertification.


Safety-Care Certification and Recertification Support

  • Assist with Safety-Care certification and recertification of BTs/RBTs and other approved employees within the company.
  • Conduct trainings, refreshers, recertifications, and competency checks once approved to do so.
  • Ensure staff demonstrate required skills before being marked as certified or competent.
  • Support staff in understanding prevention-first strategies, de-escalation, least-restrictive intervention, and safe response procedures.
  • Provide coaching and corrective feedback when staff are not demonstrating procedures correctly.
  • Communicate staff performance concerns, safety concerns, or retraining needs to leadership.
  • Assist with retraining after incidents or when competency concerns are identified.


Travel and Multi-Clinic Support

  • Travel to other company clinic locations as needed for Safety-Care certification, recertification, training, and staff support.
  • Maintain the ability to travel with short notice when training needs arise.
  • Use personal vehicle for company-required travel when assigned.
  • Maintain reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and required auto insurance.
  • Communicate travel availability, scheduling concerns, and conflicts promptly.
  • Represent the company professionally when supporting other clinic locations.
  • Follow company policies for mileage, lodging, per diem, timekeeping, and travel documentation.


Coordination With Operations Managers

  • Work with Operations Managers to plan trips for Safety-Care certification and recertification.
  • Coordinate training dates, employee attendance, location needs, and travel logistics.
  • Assist with identifying which employees need initial certification or recertification.
  • Communicate upcoming certification needs and staffing concerns to Operations Managers and leadership.
  • Support scheduling of training in a way that minimizes disruption to client services.
  • Help ensure all clinics remain current with required Safety-Care training expectations.


Documentation and Certification Tracking

  • Maintain accurate documentation of:
  • Employees who are Safety-Care certified
  • Employees who need initial certification
  • Employees who are due for recertification
  • Training dates
  • Attendance
  • Competency completion
  • Certification expiration dates
  • Missed trainings or incomplete requirements
  • Provide regular updates to Operations Managers and leadership regarding certification status.
  • Track upcoming recertification deadlines and notify leadership in advance.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and stored according to company policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff and client information.


Staff Coaching and Safety Support

  • Model safe, ethical, least-restrictive, and professional responses to challenging behavior.
  • Coach BTs/RBTs on prevention, de-escalation, and approved safety procedures.
  • Reinforce client dignity, assent, and compassionate care during crisis prevention and response.
  • Help staff understand when to seek BCBA, CIS, or leadership support.
  • Assist clinics with safety-related training needs as assigned.
  • Report unsafe practices, unauthorized physical interventions, or policy violations immediately.


Travel Pay, Per Diem, Mileage, and Lodging

For company-assigned travel related to Safety-Care certification, recertification, or trainer responsibilities, compensation and reimbursement will include:


  • Paid training/travel day: 8 paid hours per assigned training day.
  • Breakfast per diem: $15 per day, when applicable.
  • Lunch per diem: $15 per day, when applicable.
  • Dinner per diem: $30 per day, when applicable.
  • Lodging: Provided by the company when overnight travel is required and approved.
  • Mileage reimbursement: $0.50 per mile for approved trips related to certification, recertification, and assigned Safety-Care training duties.

All travel, lodging, mileage, and per diem must follow company policy and must be approved/documented as required.


Required Qualifications

  • Current employee in good standing with the organization.
  • Active RBT certification in good standing.
  • Willingness to attend required Safety-Care Trainer training.
  • Willingness to assist with Safety-Care certification and recertification of employees after completing trainer requirements.
  • Ability to continue providing direct ABA therapy services as an RBT.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other company locations, sometimes with short notice.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for company-required travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and required auto insurance.
  • Strong clinical judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to model safe and ethical behavior intervention practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to provide direct, respectful, corrective feedback to other employees.
  • Ability to coordinate with Operations Managers and leadership.

  • Experience supporting clients with aggression, self-injury, elopement, property destruction, or other high-risk behavior.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting BTs/RBTs.

Salary
