RBT Trainer — Job Description
Position Summary
The RBT Trainer is responsible for supporting the onboarding, training, competency development, and ongoing skill growth of Registered Behavior Technicians. This role helps ensure RBTs provide high-quality, ethical, and consistent ABA services in alignment with company policies, BACB requirements, treatment plans, and supervisory expectations.
The RBT Trainer will also assist the Clinical Integrity Supervisor (CIS) by providing support with training, coaching, observation, documentation, and implementation of clinical procedures as directed by the BCBA or clinical leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Training and Onboarding
- Provide initial training to new behavior technicians and RBTs.
- Teach foundational ABA principles, including reinforcement, prompting, shaping, data collection, behavior reduction, skill acquisition, and professionalism.
- Support new hires through onboarding, shadowing, and hands-on practice.
- Assist staff in preparing for the RBT Competency Assessment when appropriate and under BCBA oversight.
- Model appropriate implementation of behavior intervention plans and skill acquisition programs.
- Assist with training and onboarding support for CIS staff as assigned.
Clinical Coaching and Support
- Observe BTs providing services and provide constructive feedback.
- Support BTs in improving treatment fidelity and clinical professionalism.
- Model correct data collection, session preparation, client engagement, and behavior management strategies.
- Help identify staff training needs and communicate concerns to supervising BCBAs and the CIS.
- Assist CIS staff with clinical support tasks, staff coaching, client transitions, session structure, and implementation of behavior support strategies as directed.
- Reinforce company expectations related to dignity, assent, trauma-informed care, and ethical ABA practices.
CIS Support Responsibilities
- Assist CIS staff with day-to-day clinical support needs.
- Help model appropriate interventions, client engagement strategies, and behavior support procedures.
- Support CIS staff with R/BT coaching, session observations, and treatment fidelity follow-up.
- Assist with documentation, checklists, training records, and staff performance tracking as assigned.
- Communicate concerns related to staff performance, client safety, or treatment implementation to the supervising BCBA, CIS and/or clinical leadership.
- Help ensure CIS staff have the tools, materials, and training support needed to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Quality Assurance
- Monitor BT implementation of treatment plans for consistency and accuracy.
- Assist with treatment fidelity checks, session observations, and skills checklists.
- Document training sessions, feedback, and staff progress as required.
- Support compliance with company policies, payer requirements, HIPAA, and BACB ethical standards.
- Report clinical, staff performance, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
Collaboration
- Work closely with BCBAs, Clinical Director, CIS, Operations, and leadership to support staff development.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and staff training initiatives.
- Help create or update training materials, checklists, and onboarding resources.
- Promote a positive team culture focused on learning, accountability, and client-centered care.
Required Qualifications
- Active RBT certification in good standing.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience providing ABA services as an RBT.
- Strong understanding of ABA principles and behavior technician responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to implement treatment plans with fidelity.
- Ability to support and collaborate with CIS, BCBAs, and leadership.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to give clear, respectful, and actionable feedback.
- Reliable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience training, mentoring, or leading other RBTs.
- Experience assisting lead technicians, CIS, or clinical support staff.
- Interest in pursuing BCBA or BCaBA certification.
