Position Overview
The Transportation Manager is a critical role responsible for daily transportation operations, driver performance, and client management. The role includes direct management of the driver-monitor workforce and day-to-day service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations Leadership
- Own day-to-day transportation operations: routing, dispatch, attendance, inspections.
- Manage operations and related documentation each day via the Transafe App.
- Directly supervise the Fleet Coordinator, Drivers, and Monitors.
- Lead the daily operations standup.
- Respond to incidents and escalations in real time; coordinate with the CEO and President as needed.
Driver & Monitor Performance Management
- Conduct driver and monitor performance reviews in partnership with the Ops & People Engagement Lead.
- Coach on-time performance, route adherence, and compliance documentation.
- Lead driver recognition programs and engagement initiatives.
Client Relationship Management (Absorbed from Leadership)
- Absorb day-to-day client management and oversees the Operations & People Engagement Lead.
- Serve as the named day-to-day contact for operational matters; CEO retains contract authority and executive relationship.
- Maintain day-to-day relationships with district, municipal, and private-family clients.
- Support client evaluations, audits and other client reviews.
- Escalate contract, pricing, or strategic matters to the CEO or President as appropriate.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify operational improvement opportunities; propose and lead implementation.
- Maintain and evolve operational SOPs.
- Support technology initiatives that affect operations.
Success Measures
Performance in this role is measured against the following, tied to the Company’s Strategic Plan:
- Routing management and oversight
- Ensuring on-time pick-up and drop off
- Route completion targets
- Driver recruitment, engagement and retention targets
- Driver performance management process
- Zero major safety / child-left-in-vehicle incidents
- Client communications and experience (satisfaction and retention targets)
- New client acquisition targets
- Other initiatives and duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of transportation operations management experience, preferably in student transportation.
- MA 7D certification or willingness to obtain.
- Experience managing field-based teams (drivers, monitors, or similar).
- Experience with GPS, routing, and dispatch technology.
- Strong client management skills.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
