The Bar & Hospitality Manager leads all front-of-house operations at Hardware Coffee Co., including coffee service, other beverages, pastries, and beer & wine. This role is responsible for staff leadership, guest experience, service standards, and daily floor operations. The position reports to our Operations Director, and ensures that Hardware’s hospitality, quality, and culture are executed consistently and professionally.

In Ghirardelli Square, we are a small kiosk serving premium coffee, matcha, pastries and other refreshments in one of the world's most amazing atmospheres. In West Portal, we are opening a large, two-story, all-day cafe where coffee is the star of the show but we also do premium daytime food, beer and wine, events, and have a working expert florist. We sell our beans and retail merchandise online, in-store and at events.

Description

The Barista Bar & Hospitality Manager oversees all front-of-house operations, including:


  • Elite-quality, 3rd wave coffee program execution
  • Non-alcoholic beverage service
  • Pastries and light food service
  • Beer & wine compliance and execution
  • Staff scheduling and training
  • Guest experience standards


This role ensures smooth daily operations, strong team culture, and a consistently high-level guest experience.


The Barista Bar & Hospitality Manager reports directly to our Operations Director.


Core Responsibilities

1. Front-of-House Operations

  • Lead daily floor operations
  • Ensure smooth service during peak periods
  • Oversee bar flow, order accuracy, and speed of service
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards
  • Manage opening and closing procedures

2. Coffee & Beverage Quality

  • Ensure consistent and excellent espresso extraction and drink standards
  • Train baristas on recipes, dialing-in, and workflow
  • Maintain equipment care and maintenance routines
  • Oversee beer & wine service and compliance
  • Ensure proper ID checks and ABC compliance

3. Team Leadership & Culture

  • Hire, train, and schedule front-of-house staff
  • Set tone for hospitality and professionalism
  • Coach team members in real-time on service and communication
  • Create an accountable, no-drama, high-standard culture
  • Partner closely with Kitchen Manager for coordinated service

4. Guest Experience

  • Model proactive, warm hospitality
  • Resolve guest issues calmly and professionally
  • Maintain a neighborhood-oriented, welcoming environment
  • Protect the Hardware brand voice and experience

5. Labor & Financial Oversight

  • Manage labor scheduling to budget
  • Support daily cash handling and POS accuracy
  • Monitor beverage costs and shrink
  • Coordinate ordering for retail beverages and wine/beer

6. Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain ABC compliance for beer & wine service
  • Ensure food handler certification for staff
  • Maintain safe and organized work environment
  • Prepare for health and safety inspections

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in café, bar, or hospitality management
  • Very strong specialty coffee knowledge
  • Experience supervising teams of 8–20 staff
  • Understanding of beer & wine service regulations
  • Comfortable leading busy shifts
  • Calm under pressure
  • Highly organized and systems-oriented
  • Alignment with Hardware’s tone: confident, humble, reliable and quality-focused


Salary

$23 - $25 per hour
