This is a mid-level manager role designed for someone who can translate complex legal requirements into scalable operational workflows.
You will sit at the center of the company’s growth, working directly with our General Counsel and various internal teams to manage the lifecycle of artist distribution deals and catalog acquisitions. Beyond redlining, you will lead a small team of two coordinators, ensuring our deal-making process is fast, precise, and technologically optimized.
Based out of our New York City office, this role will report directly to our CEO and work on a hybrid schedule (4 days in office 1 day work from home).
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Work with General Counsel to draft, review, and negotiate music distribution agreements, licensing deals, and various other agreements.
- Manage two Business Affairs Coordinators, overseeing their daily output, projects, and professional development.
- Own the "Contract-to-Ingestion" Pipeline by auditing and optimizing scalable workflows, ensuring deal terms are accurately translated into our rights management systems, for accurate onboarding and release support.
- Act as the primary internal point of contact for BA with our A&R, Operations, and Product teams.
- Analyze and ensure our contracts evolve alongside our technical capabilities and new revenue streams.
- Stay up-to-date and advise senior management on digital music rights and related copyright matters in North and South America, including Section 115 of the U.S. Copyright Act, the Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA), U.S. copyright rulings related to content created using AI tools, and any other copyright law, related regulations, and any relevant treaties which may impact the exploitation of music publishing rights.
- Additional tasks and projects as assigned.
What We Are Looking For:
- 4+ years in Business Affairs, Deal Operations, or Legal Affairs within the music industry. (A J.D. or LLM is ideal, but proven "in the trenches" deal-ops experience is equally valued).
- Previous experience managing direct reports or a strong, demonstrable desire to move into a leadership role.
- Expert-level ability to redline complex distribution and music agreements with an eye for both legal protection and business flexibility.
- You don't just follow processes; you build them. You understand how metadata, rights management, and distribution technology intersect with legal contracts.
- Ability to distill complex legal jargon into actionable advice for the Executive team and A&R staff.
- An unwavering commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Proactive in problem-solving to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Genuine desire to learn and take the lead on assigned tasks from inception through completion
