About TONE

Tone is redefining personal care for Gen Z and Gen Alpha. We create premium, iconic scents designed to fit seamlessly into our audience's lifestyle, from morning routines to big nights out. Tone blends cultural relevance, bold creativity, and high-quality products to help our consumers show up as their best selves.

About the role

TONE is looking for an AI-fluent creative generalist to spend the summer helping us turn AI from a tool into a system. You will report to the SVP of Growth and partner day-to-day with our Social, Content, and Brand teams — shipping work that real customers see, plus the connective tissue (our MCP, our knowledge base, our internal agents) that lets the rest of the team move faster.

This is not a research internship. You will be making things, breaking things, and writing down what you learned so the next person does not have to relearn it. If you are the kind of person who already has a folder of ChatGPT prompts you reuse, who has spun up an agent for fun, who can taste-test an image model and tell us why one output is on-brand and another is not — we want to talk.

What you'll do

Your time will roughly split across three areas. The mix will shift based on what is shipping and where you have the most leverage.

1.  Create content and assets with AI (≈50%)

  • Produce on-brand visuals, video, copy, and social-ready content using the current generation of image, video, and text models.
  • Develop and refine TONE's house style for AI-generated work — what looks like us, what does not, and why.
  • Support campaigns end-to-end: moodboards, asset variations, post-production cleanup, edits for paid social and organic.
  • Build a library of repeatable prompts, references, and presets the brand team can use after you leave.

2.  Help develop our MCP and internal agents (≈30%)

  • Work alongside the team to extend TONE's MCP server — adding the tools, data sources, and connectors that make our internal AI assistants actually useful.
  • Prototype focused agents and workflows for real jobs around the company (think: weekly retail performance digests, asset tagging, brief drafting, competitive scans).
  • Test, document, and iterate. If a workflow saves someone an hour a week, write it down so the next person can find it.

3.  Build out our knowledge & workflows (≈20%)

  • Capture how the brand actually operates — voice, references, taste, do's and don'ts — into structured knowledge our tools can use.
  • Map the workflows on the team that are ripe for AI assistance and propose where to invest first.
  • Leave behind clear documentation: a playbook the next intern, contractor, or full-time hire can pick up cold.

Who you are

We are looking for taste plus enough technical comfort to build. You do not need to be a software engineer, but you should not be afraid of a terminal.

  • Currently a student or recent grad. Design, marketing, communications, business, CS, or a self-directed combination. Field matters less than what you have already shipped.
  • Strong creative sensibility. You can articulate why a piece of content works for a brand like ours and why another piece does not. A portfolio (school, personal, freelance, side projects) is required.
  • Daily-driver-level fluency with AI tools: image, video, and language models. Bonus points for a personal stack you have opinions about.
  • Some hands-on experience with MCPs, AI agents, or LLM-powered workflows. Even a small project counts. A class assignment, hackathon, or a side experiment is fine.
  • Comfortable in Python, JavaScript, or shell at the level needed to read documentation and modify a working example. You do not need to architect systems, you do need to be unblocked when something breaks.
  • Organized writer. Half of this job is making things; the other half is writing down what you made and how, so it compounds.
  • Self-directed. You will get context and goals from the team, then run.

Bonus points

  • You have shipped a side project that combined AI with something tangible — a tool, a video, a Shopify integration, an agent that does something useful.
  • You read about model releases for fun and have a take on what we should be testing next.

What success looks like

By the end of the summer, you will have:

  • A body of brand-ready creative work that the team is genuinely using, not just a portfolio piece.
  • At least two production-quality AI workflows or agents running internally, with documentation.
  • Measurable extensions to our MCP: new tools, new data, new capabilities, that outlast your internship.
  • A written playbook of TONE's AI practices that becomes the foundation for our next hires in this space.

Why this internship is different

You will not be making slides for a deck no one reads. TONE is a scaled consumer brand with national retail distribution, real budget, and a small team that ships fast. The AI work you do here will go directly into how we plan campaigns, brief partners, and operate the business — which means real feedback, real stakes, and real proof of work.

You will report to the SVP of Growth and work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Social, Content, and Brand teams, with a clear runway to convert into a longer-term role for the right person.

Along with your resume please submit any relevant work, content, creative, or anything else that shows your experience in this space.
