Primary Function 

Think and Ink Grant Consulting® is seeking an individual with at least five years of grant writing experience to fill the role of a subcontracted Grant Consultant. This person must be interested in serving as a grant consultant to our clients and taking on more challenging projects. 

Role Description 

The Grant Consultant is responsible for providing expert grant research, writing, and strategy services to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or mission-driven entities. This role involves identifying funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, and supporting clients in securing and managing grants. The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for advancing social impact through resource development.

Typical Clients Served 

Our clients are nationwide and include large 501(3)(c) nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of over $3 million, government municipalities, and institutions of higher education. Many clients' work focuses on improving the lives of women and children, advancing health, and education.

Job Responsibilities 

• Provide support across all Think and Ink Grants® service areas: grant writing, grant research, grant management, grant evaluation, and grant consulting. 
• Stay current with trends in philanthropy and government funding to advise clients on emerging opportunities.
• Serve as a consultant and provide recommendations to help advance clients' grant seeking
• Write compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and supporting documents in compliance with funder guidelines, on time and accurately.
• Translate programmatic goals into clear, measurable objectives and strong narratives.
• Collaborate with clients to gather relevant data, budgets, and supporting documentation for proposals.
• Lead client meetings as touchpoints to ask questions, give an overview, provide updates on pending applications, guide the grant writing process, and manage client expectations 
• Attend weekly team meetings to discuss strategy, next steps, and upcoming meetings 
• Manage multiple client projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and deliverables.
• Engage directly and maintain consistent communication with clients to provide updates, request information, and offer strategic guidance.
• Track proposal submissions, deadlines, and reporting requirements using project management tools
• Collaborate with finance staff or clients to develop accurate, funder-aligned grant budgets.
• Ensure budget narratives are aligned with program descriptions and funder expectations.
• Assist clients with post-award activities, including compliance tracking, interim, and final reports.
• Support clients in developing stewardship strategies to cultivate and maintain funder relationships.

This is a remote 1099 subcontractor role. 

Federal Grants Specialty

 

This role requires experience with federal grants in health, workforce development, higher education, and related areas. Demonstrated experience in winning grant proposals across the following agencies is required:

 

●     DOJ/OJP

●     DOL/ETA/ED (DOE)

●     HHS

●     USDA

●     HUD

 

A list of federal grants won within the last five years, and writing samples will be requested.

Skills and Qualifications 

Applicants must be strong in the following skills, abilities, or experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree 
• Demonstrated track record of wins
• Team player with a proven track record in grant writing and program development 
• Deadline-driven with extreme attention to detail 
• Minimum five (5) years of grant writing and preparing grant applications in the grant focus areas of women, children, health, and education across federal, state, and local agencies
• Project management, budgeting, and research skills 
• Impeccable written and verbal communication skills 
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage project timelines 
• Ability to work independently and set priorities 
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple job tasks 
• Organizational and analytical skills with consistent attention to detail 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Advanced degree and/or GPC 
• Seven (7) or more years of writing and preparing grant applications or nonprofit consulting 
• Prior experience as a nonprofit leader or work experience supporting women, children, health, and education (i.e. - teacher, social worker, health advocate, etc.)
