Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the supervising OT with screenings, assessments, treatment planning, and the delivery of occupational therapy services within the COTA scope of practice.
- Provide interventions addressing activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, functional cognition, vocational and educational goals, and community-living skills.
- Help participants further develop practical skills for semi-independent living, including household management, time organization, meal planning and preparation, nutrition, shopping, budgeting, scheduling, and use of community resources.
- Teach and reinforce routines, visual supports, checklists, compensatory strategies, and other tools that promote consistency, safety, and independence.
- Develop and facilitate therapeutic, social, leisure, or skill-building groups as assigned.
- Accompany participants on community outings or to appointments when clinically appropriate.
- Monitor participant performance and progress, communicate observations and concerns to the supervising OT, and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation of services, participant response, progress, and relevant recommendations.
- Follow organizational procedures, professional standards, HIPAA requirements, and established safety and reporting expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
- Current and unrestricted license to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- One to two years of clinical experience preferred.
- Experience working with adults with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, cognitive impairment, behavioral health needs, or other complex disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
- Willingness to travel locally between the office, participant apartments, appointments, and community locations as needed.
