Teacher's Assistant Job Description

Reports to Center Director


Position Summary:

The Teacher's Assistant provides flexible assistance throughout the daycare, helping classrooms as needed and supporting center-wide tasks. This role ensures smooth daily operations, supports children and staff, and maintains a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, proactive, and able to step in wherever support is needed to keep the center running efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in classrooms during teacher breaks, lunch periods, or times of high need.
  • Assist with supervision, engagement, and care of children across all age groups.
  • Help with center-wide tasks, such as set-up for activities, organizing materials, and cleaning/maintaining shared spaces.
  • Support transitions, meals, and routines as needed throughout the day.
  • Monitor safety and well-being of children in all areas of the center.
  • Communicate with lead teachers and staff about classroom needs, observations, or incidents.
  • Assist with special projects, events, or other tasks assigned by the Center Director.


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; Early Childhood Education coursework or experience a plus.
  • Experience working with children in a childcare or early education setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices preferred.
  • Experience with the childcare management software, Brightwheel, preferred.
  • Ability to be flexible, proactive, and adapt to different tasks and classrooms as needed.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.


Working Conditions:

  • Active role across multiple classrooms and center areas; includes lifting, bending, and assisting children throughout the day.
  • Flexible schedule based on center needs.
  • Compliance with state licensing requirements and all health and safety regulations.


Salary

$10 - $13 per hour
