Preschool Teacher Job Description
Reports to Center Director
Position Summary:
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for fostering a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3–5. This role emphasizes early childhood education, social-emotional growth, and school readiness through structured activities, play-based learning, and individualized support. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, creative, and passionate about helping young children learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and positive behavior.
- Observe, assess, and document each child’s progress, sharing regular updates with families.
- Incorporate literacy, math, science, art, and social skills into daily routines and structured activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, following all licensing, health, and safety regulations.
- Build strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues to support a positive learning community.
- Support children’s transitions into preschool and kindergarten through age-appropriate guidance and readiness activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, ongoing professional development, and center events as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma required; Early Childhood Education degree, CDA, or equivalent preferred.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a childcare or early education setting.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate educational practices preferred.
- Experience with the childcare management software, Brightwheel, preferred.
- Strong communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position in a classroom setting, actively engaging with children throughout the day.
- Requires lifting, bending, sitting on the floor, and assisting children with activities and transitions.
- Compliance with state licensing requirements and all health and safety guidelines.
