Infant/Toddler Teacher Job Description

Reports to Center Director


Position Summary:

The Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children ages 0–2. This role focuses on supporting each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through age-appropriate activities, routines, and individualized care. The ideal candidate is compassionate, patient, and passionate about early childhood education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive care to infants and toddlers, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and nap routines.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that encourage exploration, learning, and creativity.
  • Observe and tailor learning to each child’s growth, behavior, and milestones.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and team members to support each child’s well-being.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment, following all licensing and health regulations.
  • Support language, motor, and social development through guided play, sensory experiences, and interactive activities.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding their child’s progress and daily routines.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and center events as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Child Development Associate (CDA) or Early Childhood Education degree preferred.
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers in a childcare or early education setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices preferred.
  • Experience with the childcare management software, Brightwheel, preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.


Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position in a classroom setting with active engagement with young children.
  • Requires lifting and carrying children, bending, and sitting on the floor for extended periods.
  • Complies with all state licensing requirements and health and safety regulations.


Salary

$10 - $15 per hour
