The Willow Center is seeking a Peer Recovery Coach to provide recovery support and skills-based coaching to incarcerated women in Hendricks County Jail who are preparing for reentry into the community. This role focuses on supporting individuals experiencing substance use and mental health challenges through group facilitation, one-on-one coaching, and trauma-informed care. The ideal candidate has experience in mental health and addiction services, strong communication and group facilitation skills, and a passion for helping others in recovery. Certification as a CRS, CPRS, or CAPRC is required. This is a collaborative, in-person role within a supportive, client-centered environment dedicated to improving lives through compassionate and effective care.

Overview

The Willow Center is seeking a compassionate, recovery-focused team member to support individuals experiencing substance use and mental health challenges, particularly those transitioning out of incarceration. This role provides individual and group coaching within the Hendricks County Jail for incarcerated women nearing release, helping them prepare for successful reentry and long-term recovery. The position is grounded in trauma-informed, client-centered care and emphasizes collaboration, communication, and meaningful connection with clients and criminal justice partners.


Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Peer Recovery Coach / Recovery Support Specialist to join our team. This role focuses on supporting individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges, with a strong emphasis on those preparing to transition from incarceration back into the community.

You will provide recovery coaching, skills development, and supportive interventions within a correctional setting, while also helping connect clients to ongoing care and outpatient services for continued recovery support.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group recovery coaching for incarcerated women in the Hendricks County Jail who are nearing release
  • Support clients experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation
  • Facilitate skills development and coaching interventions to support recovery and reentry readiness
  • Assist clients in preparing for successful transition into the community, including warm referrals to outpatient and ongoing treatment services
  • Communicate effectively with clients, jail staff, clinicians, external providers, and family members
  • Maintain a supportive, respectful, and trauma-informed environment for all clients
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation using electronic health record systems
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold all confidentiality standards
  • Participate as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health, substance use treatment, or peer recovery support (preferably with justice-involved populations)
  • Active certification required: CRS, CPRS, CAPRC, CAPRC-I, or CAPRC-II
  • High school diploma required (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Comfortable working with individuals impacted by complex trauma and criminal justice involvement
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice system and reentry process
  • Experience or comfort facilitating groups and speaking in group settings
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and peer coaching approaches
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, structured environment
